CHRISTMAS MUSIC!

Cracker Barrel has been playing since "late July" according to one of the check-out people. Over/under date for a radio station (92.9) going all-Xmas.

you think that's bad...I was in Manila early September last year and they were playing Christmas music on the radio, and the JAL flight from Tokyo to Manila was play Zamfir or some similar pan flute Xmas tunes over the PA. Filipinos love Christmas music, and Journey.

I do solemnly swear to throw a brick through the window of the first Nashvegas station that dares to play C-music before Thanksgiving.................

Yep, Christmas season in the Phillipines starts September 1st, with an increase in holiday music, festivals, and kidnappings. Tis the season!

Last year, both Mix 92.9 and 94 The Fish started playing Christmas music the weekend before Thanksgiving. Usually. Mix 92.9 starts on Thanksgiving Day and the Fish starts a day earlier, but for some reason they both jumped the gun last year. And the year that 101.1 switched from Smooth Jazz to Christian, they started playing Christmas Music on November 1. I prefer it the way it was years ago when they only played a few Christmas songs a day on Thanksgiving and would slowly start adding more Christmas songs a week until Christmas Eve, when they went all Christmas music for 36 to 48 hours and stopping at midnight, December 26.

as for the Christmas music on 101.1...IIRC...this happened a flip earlier, as 101.1 dumped
the WJCE "The Juice" urban AC for smooth jazz as WJZC: all christmas tunes, with a good portion of them 'smooth jazz flavored'...a great idea. WJZC went to the Jones smooth jazz at noon on Christmas Day (I think). it's been a while...

That is the way that I would prefer it as well; if they did that, I might actually be okay with them continuing to play Christmas music in a light rotation (maybe once per hour) right up through New Year's Day. The problem with the November overkill is that by Christmas day, everyone is sick to death of Christmas "music." And they play the same crap every year!

I detest the use of Christmas music to stunt a format change! They play all Christmas music, and then once the holidays are over, they conveniently "forget" to go back to whatever they were doing before the holidays! ::)

Well, in case you haven't heard, it's Christmas already in Indiana:

When I first read the story in today's TRI and saw the name of the station was "The Stream," I thought, this is probably some station's Internet stream and not the station itself... turns out the station was calling itself "The Stream" up until this week! Have a funny feeling they won't resume calling themselves that come 12.26.10...

I wish some of the big 50,000 watt AM's would play christmas music on christmas eve like they used too. I have fond memories listening of driving back from grandma's house on christmas eve listening to the christmas shows on the old AM radio in the car. Now everything is just reruns of regular programming or colon blow commercial. FM is not much better. same stuff, just on autopilot. even the stations that play christmas music play the same tired worn out remakes of classics being butchered by pop stars that don't have a clue how to sing christmas songs. And Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole didn't need no stinkin' Autotune to help them sing either.

in the early seventies at the small thousand watter i worked at, we started Christmas music the second week of December..two songs per hour, third week four songs per hour then all Christmas music on the 25th..broken up only by the thousands of "live" ten second Christmas wishes from sponsers...would read as many as ten in one break...interspersed with the standard carted spots..only day we let music track on albums..dead air and all..on the 26th..back to rock biz as usual...and everyone was glad of it ..lol

One thing that has always bugged me with The Fish's Christmas format is that they go to too much easy listening Christmas music. Nothing wrong with the music itself perhaps, but they're an AC CCM station the rest of the year, so to me it would be better if they did more AC and CCM Christmas music, with the exception of a few classic easy listening Christmas songs like, Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, etc.

I like Christmas music alright, but if WSM-FM does that they might as well hand over their 2011 ratings to KDF. People that have listened for years (for reasons unknown) will have to fill their country void and I imagine KDF will do just that, unless they stop at 98 because of the closer "dial" location. Maybe it'll be a month-long stunt!

I listen to KDF, the Fish, and Mix a good deal. The last two will leave me searching over Christmas, so I guess I'll be listening to KDF more.

Re: The Wolf: So not any chance that is a "stunt" (albeit a sneaky and lonnnnng one) before a format change?

I'll kiss a PD right smack on the kisser if the PD dares to play ALL C-music BACKWARDS from now until C-day!

The next sentence is my impersonation of a Republican: I hope SHE'S cute. ;)

Hamiltonsfolly: You can throw a brick through the window of any Nashvegas station except WNAH and WAMB.

The Fish starts their Christmas preview tomorrow morning. They're already taking requests on their FaceBook page.

Looks like their breaking away from the Today's Christian Music Network they usually run and airing the Christmas local, the network is still Christian AC.

Apperently their "now playing" on their web player though is pulling data from the TCM automation .. "Mary did you know" airing at 1:37am EST doesn't sound like Britt Nicole "Walk On The Water" which is what is airing on the TCM Network format.
