Christmas on Dial Global

I heard a song called "This Christmas" this morning, which is terrible.

On the other hand, "Home from the Holidays" by Perry Como was one of the last songs played.

I went out for the mail and heard only the end of The Chipmunks' song, which is a shame. It takes about ten minutes to go to the post office and I do that during the news this time of year.

Carl Hampton played something he said was Mannheim Steamroller, which was of course terrible.

Johnny Mathis was on this morning, I think. There was the most beautiful version of "O Tannenbaum" which sounded so much like that choir that performs the song at The Preakness. Then Johnny or whoever started singing and there was this weird sound like on "For Your Eyes Only" by Sheena Easton. Totally wrecked it.

I finally heard the good version of "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" by Andy Williams, but not here.

Now I remember what I wanted to say.

I heard a terrible version of "Winter Wonderland" this morning. Turns out it was Mannheim Steamroller.

Ed Brand was on this afternoon.

I hate that Christmas music is about to end. But no one on the radio does it right. Even the ACs do a better job of putting traditional songs in versions I like together in a row. Though the ACs do worse non-traditional stuff.

Jeff Rollins always works Christmas day. I kind of feel sorry for him.

He had an interesting story to tell about one song, if I could only remember it.

I was happy to turn that station off for the last time. I don't remember if they go back to normal tomorrow, but honestly. With all the good songs and good versions of good songs, why so much junk?

They did play the Nat and Natalie version of "The Christmas Song" this morning. Which just isn't as good as Nat by himself.

And I'm glad to never again have to listen to "Where Are You Christmas?"

It's too early to just cut us off!

Even worse, the first song I heard was this dreck called "Holding Back the Years".

True, there have been some good songs this morning but I'm not ready.

Still spinning them nonstop on wavjazz.net all day! Always had an empty feeling when the old WLIF in Baltimore used to cut off their classic programming at midnight on Christmas back in the 70s and early 80s. Christmas only comes once a year, so it's nice to ease listeners back into regular programming by giving them another day of holiday favorites as a bonus.

I'm glad xmas is over, just so I don't have to keep suffering through songs like "Where are you Christmas", "Christmas Shoes", "Little Altar Boy" and other pieces of Christmas crap. And whats the deal with Lorrie Morgan?! Nothing by Ella, but you hear Lorrie frickin' Morgan every hour. She must have had something going on with a network exec back when her xmas album came out. My grown up Christmas list is for these songs to get the boot, along with the many over-played slow and draggy seasonal stiffs that are always a part of the DG Christmas parade. More hits pleeeeeeese!!!

I just want the contemporary-sounding stuff gone, like Point of Grace. And the creepy-sounding stuff like "Mary Did You Know" and that Wynonna song.

This morning a station ID told us this is The Holiday Station, where we can hear our Christmas favorites.

As of this morning...590 WROW (Albany) was still mixing holiday/winter songs with the regular standards. Sounds good!
