Christmas on WOGL HD2 = WYSP Going All-Christmas?

Think about it. If CBS has any intentions to throw their hat in the "holiday hits" ring, certainly they would do it on their classic hits/oldies station, just as they did last year, and not relegate it to their HD2 channel. Especially when you consider most businesses (let alone human beings) are not equipped for HD Radio in the first place.

And while their performance was not as good as the late "Now 97.5," perhaps they can take advantage of that station's absence and take on B101, one-on-one... on WYSP.

Thoughts?

They would only flip WYSP to all Christmas if the plan, after Christmas, was to flip it to something completely different than it is now. And probably something female oriented. You don't flush out the rock audience with Christmas music if you're planning a flip to sports.

Do you think the demise of Now 97.5 is inspiring CBS to bring it's "Fresh" format to Philly, as it has in NYC and DC? I don't know why they'd think they'll do better than Now did, but maybe they will.

Oh, and just because WOGL has Oldies on the main signal and Christmas on HD2 doesn't mean they aren't planning to swap the two about a month from now.

Now's failure might make someone think twice about going along a similar path, but it's not like we've never seen repeated attempts at something...trying to be the one that figures out how to do it "right" so to speak. That said, they can't bring "Fresh" as a name here, as B 101 licensed that (at least according to some news articles a while back). The format, yeah, but not that name.

what if cbs has it planned to flip 94.1 to ac the miniute b101.1 flips to all christmas remember what they did in chicago 2 years ago they made 93.9 go christmas on november 1st having all the people who did not want christmas listen to 105.9 but i think in its second year it did go all christmas

Not true, exactly 1 year ago 101.1 in St. Louis did just that, flipped to all christmas in october, then following the holidays flipped to ESPN101.1. Soo, YSP could flip. I think it would be an improvement from whats currently on there.

Innovative ... would be the station playing only THREE Christmas tunes
(and nothing else) now through January 1st.

"Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" - "The Christmas Shoes" - "Dominick The Italian Donkey"

THREE highly-annoying BUT most-requested songs.

Now THAT would be a cume and TSL builder.

Let's assume for a second the plan is to put sports on 94. Does it make more sense to give "The Fanatic" two months on FM to get a leg up on you (since under this scenario you see a benefit to sports on FM vs AM), or to make the jump without an interim stunt? Would they even be able to match Now's 2008 Christmas numbers at this point? It's not a sure thing, which might make that type of double switch less enticing. Just thinking aloud about what makes the most long-term business sense.

Now, if the plan is AC on 94, the possibility of trying to zig when the B zags makes for an interesting game of chess indeed.

Should be interesting no matter how it plays out.
