Christmas Preview Weekend

As expected, WMYI and WSPA broke out the Christmas tunes this weekend for the first Christmas Preview weekend.

When do you think they will go all Christmas? The week of Thanksgiving?

I think that the "standard" of preview weekends has been set. Neither WMYI or WSPA are winning the Santa battle. I think the peeps are onto that. Look at Dec. 06. WESC won that month. Santa ain't all that.

I don't see the point in TWO all-Christmas stations....which one actually does the better job? I've always listened to WMYI during the Holidays...don't know why, I guess because when I listen to the radio, it's usually WMYI. Don't know about Magic, don't really care for their music selections during the regular format (compared to 102.5).

At one point, GSP had 4 Christmas stations including WLFJ (you would expect that) and what is now "Charlie" formerly "The Walk" and other failed formats.

WMYI dropped the ball a bit on the execution of Christmas programming last year. They had someone different in charge of the music. Before last year, their December numbers were killer.

I think they may switch to all Christmas this friday evening.

also if anybody have Directv it has all the XM Radio Christmas music channels up.

The only one that I have seen so far is the country one on XM 17, which would be channel 809 on Direct Tv.

Christmas Preview Weekend.... K-104.7 Charlotte used that one when I worked there last year and probably this year too.

It's funny to me now, like we need a preview??? Am I being too cynical here? I mean I don't expect to hear many surprises on "Christmas Preview Weekend".

I absolutely DETEST that both WSPA and WMYI have to start playing Christmas music, and at the same time. Why do we have to have TWO stations doing it?

Like I said in an earlier post, I've never listened to WSPA during the Holidays (or rather, any other time really). Don't know why, just never cared for the way they sound. Maybe if they played NORMAL music I'd tune in....seems to me it'd be a good way to get the regular My listeners that don't want to hear Jingle Bell Rock 50x a week to listen.

Oh well, it's all about $ $ $

I have listened to some of what is being played on WSPA and frankly I have enjoyed what I have heard and wish that we had a station here in Columbia that was already playing all Christmas music other than what WHMK will be playing. It is the season and I think that Christmas is my favorite season of the year and am ready to hear something other than the run of the mill stuff that we are subjected to the rest of the year by all of the run of the mill stations that are here in this city.

They will always follow what each other does. They're both eventually going to go all-Christmas, but if one station waits too long, the listeners who like Christmas might go to the other station and not come back. It makes for great competition, but less variety for listeners.

In Columbia, it might be the same way if WTCB had more competition. See if you can pick up 104.3 WBBQ/Augusta in Columbia, they are playing all Christmas now.
