Christmas programming

I didn't know that. Actually, I think there must have been more of them on "Lost in Love".

Celine Dion performed an Air Supply song with the words "You are my lady" but it had to be changed to "I am your lady".

The same thing happened with a Jackson Five song.
Air Supply is a duet.

But Joan Baez, covering Robbie Robertson's "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down," left the opening line, "Virgil Cain is my name," unchanged.
There were hard feelings from members of The Band toward Joan Baez, arising from her cover of that song. Apparently she did not have access to the lyrics, and sang it based on how she heard the original Band version...and she really mangled several lines in the first verse.

Levon Helm in particular was not pleased with her version, but I recall that they got together and talked it out at some point.

I bet she could have found the lyrics in Hit Parader, which used to have a four-page section full of them every month!

It's silly to nitpick singers for the first-person lyrics they sing, especially if the songs aren't their own. Stevie Wonder declares "I was born in Little Rock," at the start of "I Was Made to Love Her," but he was actually born in Saginaw. Come to think of it, even if Wonder did write that song, the opening line is still fine just the way it is. Nobody's going to boo at a concert and start yelling "Liar!" over it.
On that subject, when I was in high school people said Barry Manilow didn't write the song.

I'm either wrong or psychic. Are you saying that Barry Manilow didn't write "I Write the Songs."? You're right! It was written by the Beach Boys' Bruce Johnston.
I am.

Back on topic. I thought my usual grocery store did just Christmas music, contemporary-sounding and not necessarily the traditional songs. I heard a Christmas song followed by "Adore You" by Harry Styles yesterday. Maybe I was hearing Christmas music only when I was there early in the morning.

The grocery store where I get points to use for gasoline was playing mostly regular music, though I'm wondering what the format was since "Cruel to Be Kind" hardly sounds like an AC song. But I did hear one Christmas song. At least it was about Christmas.

WZKY outside of Charlotte NC is mixing Christmas music in with the regular oldies.

Good Time Oldies is still playing regular music today, but for reasons that will soon become obvious, I didn't listen long enough to hear how much Christmas music there is.

There is some Christmas music on WHVN in Charlotte, which I believe I described as a standards station, just on the air to allow it to be sold, using a music collection a formerly co-owned station had. Sometimes I heard one song that was not Christmas- or holiday-related followed by one that was. Sometimes I heard two songs in a row that weren't about Christmas. Sometimes I heard two Christmas songs in a row. I was dismayed to hear what I believe was Mariah Carey singing THAT song on a station so conservative that other than Christmas music, the most contemporary-sounding song I heard was "The Way We Were". Actually, Mariah's song isn't as bad as I remembered. I was also dismayed to hear Trans-Siberian Orchestra, but as long as it was the children and not "Sarajevo", that's fine.

Today was my last day listening to anything in the car or in any stores. WZKY is still doing regular music and supposedly mixing in Christmas songs. Same for Good Time Oldies. I heard a Christmas song in the grocery store that gets its music from "corporate", but that was between two songs that were not holiday-related.

This morning when my clock radio came on, there was Christmas music, as there was on the day after Thanksgiving. Normally, there is local news. The station airs Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, etc.

I’ll be very upset when the tolmachevy sisters hits comes on 12/26 cuz their birthday is coming up (January 14)

We could probably stand to have updates on road conditions and power outages after the much anticipated White Christmas turned out to be whiter than expected.

You're better off listening to the music. :)
I'm just saying what the usual format is.

I have no idea what I was hearing this morning. First thing after I wake up, I don't want to hear anything. Some standup comic or something was singing one line from different songs.

So here's what I've found today. WNAM was airing a church service a few minutes ago but is back to America's Best Music.

Good Time Oldies is all-Christmas.

WZKY was playing regular music. A recorded announcement said, "Every time we play a Christmas song, an angel gets its wings". After that song, a regular song again.
