That Chinese restaurant scene was actually shot in Toronto, where they make some of the best
Chinese grub on this side of the planet.

I think American tastes have moved on from Chop Suey to spicier and more exotic fare.
I recently ordered some Chop Suey from my local Chinese take-out, mainly out of curiosity.
They guy looked at me as if I had been the first customer since the 1940's to actually order that.
