Christmas...ugh

It is Christmas time at 98.3! I was shocked to hear them flip this early. Have they ever flipped this soon in the past? I was wondering how Magic would respond, if at all, and they have by being "The Christmas Station" in the evening hours. Pretty weak reaction to WTRY going first!

I figured this year in the Pamal cluster Magic wouldn't flip and it'd be 104.9. Any thoughts on if there will be a Christmas station in the Regent cluster this year? 105.7 Anyone?

Oh the horror! Two all Christmas stations in a market this small is bad enough but can you just imagine Albany with three?!?!

Spread the Happy Happy Joy Joy

Yeah, I realized this as well.

It's really for those who are out shopping early this year due to this fundamental economy of ours.

I feel for all those jehovah witnesses and jews who are shut out of the festivities.

[size=10pt][size=10pt][size=10pt][size=10pt] I love Christmas music. Was not aware that WTRY had started playing Xmas music already. Yesterday evening I heard Xmas music on Magic 100.9, I was happy. Then this morning, I turned on Magic, and they were back to regular oldies.

It's not right to have TWO OLDIES stations playing Xmas music. They should leave one on oldies so the oldies fans who don't like Xmas music so early can have their oldies.

Also, when Magic 100 started playing regular music this morning, I felt disappointed at first. But as I listened, I heard some of my favorite 70's music: very melodic songs by the Bee Gees, and some other good nostalgic seventies tunes. That was better than listening to bad, secular, abrasive Christmas music. (Anything by Barbara Streisand, for example, or some of those rock versions...)

I've read some objections to hearing Xmas music after December 25th, but for many of us Christians, Xmas continues right up to January 6th, the Epiphany. I was delighted that Magic 100 extended the season till New Year's, at least.

However, objectionable music was what they made radio dials for....dials and buttons for all of us! ::) ;D :D

I stand corrected! Humbly so!

You have to hand it to Jay Scott because what he's done with that station is simply worthy of awards. It is in fact the station I listen to the most and although I can't exactly describe what the "format" is, I do know that I like it and rarely turn it off.

Programers like Jay are far and few. He's done a remarkable amount with very little. I take my hat off to him!

Someone should buy Bob Green a new pair of headphones though, even though the feedback during breaks is somewhat comedic.

I don't see 92.1 and 98.5 "Lite-FM" flips to all-Christmas yet, but I don't know if 98.5 should flip first, maybe a simulcast of WZCR or maybe a greatest hits station like CBS-FM. Will have to see what happens after the holidays or maybe come 2009.

@ LEAST THE BEST LITTLE STATION THAT COULD & HAS DONE
WAITS TILL CHRISTMAS EVE & DAY TO DO THEIR OWN VERSION
OF CHRISTMAS RADIO LIKE NO OTHER STATION CAN OR DOES!

The dim bulbs at 92.1 Lite-FM have, as of today, gone to Christmas Music.

I knew it was going to happen sooner rather than later. Their web site has been decked with boughs of holly, mistletoe, snowflakes and gift-wrapped packages for weeks now.

It is also christmas on 1.57 WVTL

Unreal....It gets earlier and earlier EVERY YEAR,its disgusting!!

It wouldnt be so bad if it was GOOD CHRISTMAS MUSIC,its utter crap (Most of it)

If you haven't the news, WHUD went all Christmas today, now we got too many Chrismas stations like WRNQ and WCTW, one of the "Lite-FM's" already went Christmas about two weeks ago, and now WHUD. All of these HV stations went all Christmas. You also got WKLI's "Magic 100.9" and WTRY up Albany playing Christmas music. Who is programming these stations? I swear that all of these stations are being programmed by the Grinch.

Stations with a 12+ market share & audience base
need not employ rocket science into their base
of programming & when to play what & why.

WGNA could flip tomorrow to classic country or
Music of Your Life & still hold to their market share.

Paradigm shifts in radio are rare, so , programming
a selection of holiday music for one month or more
is easy money for programmers & sales departments.

May I suggest

- Round the clock XMAS country oldies on WGNA

- Round the clock XMAS talk on WGY

- Round the clock XMAS hiphop oldies on JAMZ

- Round the clock XMAS mass re-broadcasts on WROW

- Round the clock XMAS "Bishop's Messages" on B95

HaPPy HoliDays :b
