Christmas vs Holiday Music

I noticed this year Star in Burlington is playing "Christmas" music. In past years they always pushed it as "Holiday" music.

as Spock would say.... Fascinating!

Happy "Holidays"
Joe

I've noticed any number of retailers are also mentioning "Christmas" instead of "the holidays" as well. Heard a story on the news that this is a result of an organized boycott of stores that refused to mention Christmas. Guess it's OK to use the "C" word again.

I think it was the "Culture Warrior" himself --- Bill O'Reilly, who got everyone fired up about that. ;D

I've heard from several radio programmers that being PC when it came to Christmas was a turnoff to listeners. Bill O'Reilly is right on.

Which listeners? I’m sure the Jewish listeners aren’t thrilled with all the Christmas talk. I think it’s being PC to only talk about Christmas and to hell with everyone else.

Stations have researched their listeners on this. The vast majority were not happy that their station playing their favorite Christmas tunes were going PC and using the term holiday. Part of this stems from schools replacing their "Christmas Concerts" with "Holiday Concerts". Or towns being required to remove Nativity scenes.

Unfortunately, we live in a country where "hurt feelings" has become the gateway to "riches" thanks to your friendly neighborhood trial lawyer. People are beginning to wake up and fight back.

I can understand saying "Happy Holidays", as both Christmas and Hanukkah festivities happen around the same time. But when referring to the music it IS Christmas music. And that tree many people decorate? It's a CHRISTMAS tree, not a "holiday tree". If one wishes to be perfectly politically correct then perhaps they should refer to a Menorah as a "holiday candle holder".
