I apologize if this was already discussed, but with Sunny's poor showing in the latest book, my suggestion would be to switch to Christmas November 1st to be SURE they get the first hit at the holiday tunes. It could only help. I know, November 1st to me is way too early for holiday tunes, but I think it would be a good strategy given their bad showing. Comments?

Given the drop of the "B" also, I think the problem is not one that is going to be solved by playing Holiday music now.

Summer skews heavily toward the younger audience, not exactly fans of A/C. If Sunny alone had taken a hit, I would agree with your point (and heavily agree with the point that it is way too soon to be airing that product).

I tend to agree with Hinckly's view in the NY Daily News about the NYC Summer book. Their Lite-FM was lower than normal due to the summer move toward more youthful formats. WLTW and WBEB dropped practically the same number. WWPR and Power 99 increased by similar amounts. 'MMR increased.

Now that the B101 and WSNI adult "listen at work crowd" is back from vacation, the numbers should return to normal without Santa returning to town before Vets Day.

Although I think it would be way too soon, I think both Sunny (WSNI-104.5) and B-101 (WBEB-101.1) will go all-Christmas on Tuesday, November 1st.

Whether Sunny or B-101 does it first, the other will follow within minutes.

If the Radio Gods are reading this right now, please...PLEASE!! Should B101 or SUNNY go "All-Christmas" beFORE "Black Friday", could you please find a way for either/both of them to crash & burn in the Fall Book?

If you can make this happen, I promise to return all the CDs/T-shirts I stole out of the Prize Closet over the years. (OK...all the CD's except my "Wilson-Phillips Greatest HIT" CD; NObody's gettin' THAT one back!)

I started a new job a few months ago in an office with women in their 40s. (Sunny's prime target audience, perhaps?) They have WSNI on in the background all day. For someone like me, it's excrutiating to listen to, but I put up with it because I'm new.

I really don't mind about half of Sunny's music mix, but what gets me is the repetition. If you listen with any regularity, you'll immediately catch on to certain songs getting played EVERY SINGLE DAY! "Respect" "We Are Family" "Don't Leave Me This Way" "Boogie Oogie Oogie" "Knock On Wood" (the Amii Stewart version), and the champion, "I Will Survive." Good God in heaven, when any of these songs comes on, I have to walk out of the office. My coworkers probably never noticed this before, but now that a self-proclaimed radio critic like me is there, they're sure taking notice now... and agreeing.

If Sunny's format is pop hits of the 60s, 70s, & 80s, it just seems to me they would have a much more extensive music selection without the need for such a limited "core" playlist.

They've already had a few discussions in the office about when to expect the start of the Christmas music... and I've learned that the general consensus is everyone gets sick of it by Thanksgiving. I guess I'll soon find out if they actually switch to something else.

Does anyone think all-Christmas music has almost run it's course? Don't get me wrong..I love Christmas music and am glad to have it available on at least one station 24/7 after Thanksgiving. Were there any all Christmas stations prior to 9/11? Did people need some type of "comfort music" after that horrible event? Do you think the number of stations nationwide who do all Christmas will decrease as time goes on?

While *I* think it ran its course about five minutes after someone got the bright idea, I'm clearly missing something.

I much, much preferred the approach of stations--in a variety of formats--adding songs beginning Black Friday. Maybe it was just one an hour or so, but then it would build to the 12/24/36 hours on many stations. This all-or-nothing approach is insane. I guess to recreate things the way I like them, I'll just create a custom mix of regular and holiday songs on my iPod and ignore radio altogether for the next two months.

There's a reason these songs are played as much as they are: They test well with "soccer moms", Sunny's target audience.

Well we will see how they do come ratings time if they go all Christmas.
But I want to mention as it has been before..the All Christmas music is
for the retailers to play in their stores...(Sunny's advertisors)
Supposedly to encourage them to shop early for christmas..getting them in the
mood so to speak.

But the benefit is two fold as the shoppers...(who also have Arbitron Diaries remember) will write in their diaries they listened to Sunny or B101 all christmas music that day.
Being forced too listen benefits stations as well as the retailers. Everyone shops right?
Unless you're like me and shop at the Dollar store and listen to Dollar store Radio..LOL
