christmas

i saw this on the boston board.....who do we think is gonna go all xmas this yr. and when you think they well flip?..... i say most likley lite rock 105 the friday before thanksgiving.. i dont know about coast

Coast has gone the earliest each year and I expect that they will be the one that changes the Friday before Thanksgiving and Lite might hold off until the day before Turkey day if not until Friday morning for the shoppers; but at this point, is there any real difference?

Christmas is now ruled by the evil corporate empire. Why can't we just go back to the 12 days of Christmas please. 24 hours of Christmas music on Chritmas day is nice. How about that. Can we keep it that way? I'm tempted to delete this whole post because I don't even like talking about Christmas when it's still three weeks until Thanksgiving. But since I already wrote it, I'll post it anyway.

Come on Now.It's not even a week after Halloween.Let's see if next year someone will start playing christmas music on Labor day.Why not.

(bleep) Christmas. Corporate America, whether it's retail, radio or whatever,Christmas is usaully killed before Thanksgiving now.
I would die to have an old fashioned Christmas.Give me country setting with a one family house.some snow, mistletoe and Nat King Cole and I'll be all set.

I agree with Kenny. These days Christmas is just another day to stress people out. Apparently it wasn't good enough to stress people out for a couple of weeks. These days businesses have figured out how to stress everyone out for three months in advance. Christmas is one holiday that is so far removed from what it's supposed to represent, that it's barely enjoyable anymore.

Skynet you're that rare breed of person who by his own admission doesn't listen much to the radio and especially music stations, but likes to talk about the radio he doesn't listen to anyway. I doubt that any station going all Christmas is going to ruin your holiday because even if someone went all metal for the month of December you still wouldn't be listening.

Oooo..zingo. I like it. It is something that I have often thought; but have not put into print, damn....beat me there, moon! Good job!

Thank you and by the way I'm not trying to zing Skynet at all. His opinions about talk radio at times hold merit. I'll listen to any criticisms and rants on here, even if I disagree, if the poster sounds like he at least listens to the stations or formats he's talking about. Anyone in radio knows that just being in the business doesn't automatically endow you with great knowledge. 3/4 of the people I know would drive their stations into the ground in a week if they took the programming reins so I'm not on any high horse here.

Why dont you? You make the decision to get wrapped up into the 'stress' of the season!

Or have you lost the TRUE meaning of Christmas?

I dont let Christmas stress me out, in fact it is one of my favourite times of the year. I get to see family, either by travelling to them, or them coming to me. A couple of days off, (although you Americans really need to take on board Boxing Day, and take the 26th off as well!!! ;-) )

Yeah, I'll tune into the Christmas music, probably in December, when I am ready for it. November still has a couple of family brithdays and Thanksgiving to deal with! I'll deal with Christmas when I am good and ready.. Not when 'Corporate' tell me too!

All the best!

Jazzy

Here's the thing..

While most of us in radio have our stomachs turn at the thought of going ''All Chirstmas'', listeners, especially women in the 25-54 Money Demo..love it..to pieces..

I once spent a Christmas in the Midwest where the EZ station I worked at did 48 hours of Christmas, which was unheard of at the time..and there were two of us on duty..everybody else was off..12 hours on and 12 hours off for two days..

There are a host of Chistmas songs I don't ever want hear again as long as I live..but..

I can't think of a market where Christmas Music in large doses failed to draw ratings and revenue..consultants keep waiting for it to fail at some point, for the audience to finally tune out..but they don't..

You sir are 100 percent correct! Not much out there is worth listening to these days. When I do listen to the radio, I typically don't even listen to stations in this market. But I do scan the dial a couple of times a week to see what's going on with WPRO. I enjoy Michael Savage. I also enjoy WBRU and WBCN. I had HJY on in the car yesterday too. Cool 102 is the station of choice when I'm relaxing in my living room. Most of the time I listen to WCBS and WINS from New York. I also listen to 92.3 KROCK via their stream. So I have my favorites for when I'm in the mood.

Here's an idea...don't tune into either station.

"Speaker of the truth" has it right! How many of the people with posts here are Women? I would guess very few. Women love Christmas Music. My wife almost had the "big O" when she found out Coast flipped.

Speak for yourself Teddy. I for one am damn sick & tired of always having to resort to Barry White.
