Christmas

According to the article below, Christmas music programming is already seeing in streaming media alone! At least a couple of stations in major markets have made the jump early too.

I have 2 questions, how soon do you think it will be before WMJX flips? And do you think that there may be a remote possibility, especially iHeartRadio could flip one of their signals to compete with Entercom as well?

As you all know in radio, anything is always possible!

Except any station choosing, in a depressed advertising market, to try to compete for holiday season listeners with a station that has owned Christmas for years.

A station like WMJX is a perfect fit for all Christmas; as for what iHeart has, the Bull may sprinkle some Yule tunes in then go all Christmas a day or so before...WZLX, no, other than occasional tunes.Same with Kiss or Jamn. 97.7, maybe, but for a whole month?

With The Beat Of Boston 97.7 still having lackluster shares. Temporarily flipping to all Christmas should only have their AQL go up! And with Jam'n, I don't know. They surely benefited, even if has only been a couple of coins in the bucket, since the Amp Radio switch to music unleashed aka Big 103.

Finally, not that I see Beasley actually doing this, but does anyone else have in the back of their mind that there could be just a minute possibility of WROR jumping in also?

MJX vs ROR..a 2 station Yuel duel? Some yrs ago we had it with WODS from CBS and WROR, later WMJX, from Beasley doing it. Now
Ent. has MJX...the former 103.3 is doing the whole Big variety hits deal now but they have sister station WMJX doing Christmas.

>>BOSTON (CBS) — It has already started – The Christmas music.
Both WROR (105.7 FM) and WODS (103.3 FM) have kicked off their Christmas music marathon.
So from now through Christmas, all these stations be airing is holiday music.

I don't remember what the market's rec. is for earliest start? But I think it's the Friday after Vet's Day. Which is like Nov. 15 or so?
I don't think anyone has gone before VetDay, so for the last 20 years or so the earliest has been weekend prior to Thanksgiving.

Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas have been cancelled for 2020 due to Covid-19. All at the North Pole have been laid off along with half of everyone in radio. No commuting so with almost no listening or advertising none of this silliness will be occurring this year. Bahhhhh Humbug!

Not even Festivus?

One year it started just after Election Day! There used to be a Boston Radio Blog--not the BostonRadioWatch one but one by "Keith".It was pulled down but I wrote an entry years ago called "After Election Day Comes Christmas"

Election day in 2008 was Tue Nov 4.
The stations flipped 2 days later.

>>Oldies 103 and 105.7 WROR IT'S TOO FREAKIN EARLY!!!!!!
Are they kidding????? November 6? What next? Halloween? Will we have kids in Santa costumes? Also in Providence, B101 has gone all Christmas, leaving oldies and classis hits fans without an FM station,

The followup post by RickyF said that the previous year the flip was on Nov 10

Who told you that? Boston cannot sustain 3 Christmas formats.

Not to mention that Big 103 is only months removed from its launch and is still trying to find an audience. Why blow off the audience they've built up already with a month or more of ho-ho-ho?

Yes, if they did that, it would really only mean one of 2 things: It was indeed a placeholder, and not a viable format as led to believe. Or, they decided that they made a mistake with the format to start with. This is not to mention that their sister station almost always goes Christmas! Just remembering that fact, it would be shot in the foot for WBGB to flip to Christmas.

Right, like myself. I've been listening to Big alot, in the car anyway. I enjoy it. I certainly won't hang around to listen to Christmas music.

I wonder why there's no Halloween format.

I wonder why there's no radio station in Boston playing Halloween music. There's plenty of music celebrating Halloween.
