Christopher Calandro website launch

I was invited to the website launch of Christopher Calandro Creative Labs. this evening. Calandro did a wonderful job of explaining his plans for his website and his soon to be published novel. JB, Lisa Baron, Fat Kid, Mark Arum, and Frank Pritchard were there plus the many great friends of Calandro. Check his site out at www.christophercalandro.com

To launch a website without having it complete and functioning is amateurish and embarrassing . . . Is it a joke? What is the point of the site anyway? Personal ego satisfaction?Did Mark tell you about his Man Groomer? He is real proud of it you know!

Though I don't know him personally, I have heard things about him from time to time.None of those things I have heard coincides with anyone waiting anxiously for the unveiling of a website in his name.Maybe it should have been called LegendInMyOwnMind.com? Guess that one is taken already.ItsAllAboutMe.com is still open, last I checked.

No, Calandro has balls. I love how any creative thought gets shot down. Do you work for Cumulus?

I have met him and have had a long-running feud with him. There are a few ways to take him:Knowledgeable about radio and how to do a good show.Got a raw deal while doing a radio-related stunt.Thinks he is bigger than he really is.Apparently, he has an offer in advertising, I hope he took it because being a 35-year-old phone guy at a failing morning show is not a good thing for the resume

Hey deadman - the one nice thing about reading and contributing to this board is that I come at it from a 'listener' perspective. I have no agenda as a result of a friendship with someone, employment with some company, etc. This is unlike someone like you - which is obvious due to your quick diatribe about his god-like talents and wonderful followers. The fact that you were invited speaks volumes to your Chris Calandro love-fest affiliation.Understand, when you post something like the paragraph that started this thread, that you are ASKING for commentary - both good and bad. If you don't get that, then I'm not sure why you're here. You asked us to check his site - we obviously did, and we have commentary on it. It has minimal content, and what is on there is not the least bit interesting, unless you're Oprah on a marathon-running kick. And I really could care less about Mark Arum (though I think they might be secretly in love?)That's my two cents - I welcome yours.

How is this a commentary?

When somebody of relative insignificance to the average Atlanta listener has a party to celebrate a website in their name (not so bad in itself...no, it is actually) and you in turn further the cause by posting details AND a website on a public radio board, and ask people to look at it????Man, I was probably pretty tame compared to others.Ask, and you shall receive. You asked, and I commented.Suck it up.Again, comments welcome!

You know what? Deadman is 100% right. First of all, your comment that Calandro is "nobody of any significance" is just stupid. You may not like Calandro, but the fact is he's been on the radio in Atlanta for the better part of a decade. Nobody who has listened to 96 Rock or 99X hasn't at least heard his name. That makes him a public figure and somewhat significant. But that doesn't really matter anyhow. Millions of people have websites in their own name. Calandro is just trying to use what notoriety he has to get something going for himself. He obviously recognized his radio choices were limited so he's trying a different angle. Your comments are based on your dislike for Calandro, nothing more. If he had the greatest website in the world you'd still find something bad to say. I do agree, though, that he should have had it up, running, and fully functional before having a launch party.

Once again, wooder, you also provide a relatively lame response, with little intellectual substance.First, I stand by his relevance as a person of significance in Atlanta radio. In 'the better part of a decade', whether you like it or not, he has been surpassed by many, including such names as Barnes, Leslie, Jimmy, Crash, Axel, SouthSide, Rhodes, Larry, Eric, etc....never mind the secondary personalities of late (Porn Czar, Murray, Garrett, etc.). Doesn't matter whether or not you like them - they kicked his on-air ass.I can't say I like or dislike Calandro - I do not know him from Adam. His only standout performance for me was as 'Radio Boy'. And I thought it was weak at best.I comment from a listener perspective. I know that has little relevance to you.Whether you like it or not, he is grasping for notoriety where he can get it. Unfortunately, he is freaking boring. Running? Who cares?

Um..... so he wasn't REALLY 100% right, then? ;)

He was 100% not 100% right.Exactly. Sort of. Yeah, that's it.

Geesh, Calandro, what big HATERS you have! Well, I went to the party and had a great time. I also was able to make some good connections as well. No, I'm not significant at all in Atlanta Radio. And, no, YOU don't know everyone who is significant in Atlanta Radio. THEY don't care if you know. But, the people in the know are aware of the players in the biz, and they don't have to be on the air to be one.A great deal of "getting known" in this business is self-promotion. And it's EXTREMELY hard to do that when you're unemployed and broke. Hell, I'm employed and still broke. Websites aren't cheap, and it's definately a work in progress, but the site's a darn fine start. Calandro's at a new point in his life and he should be commended for helping the aforementioned jocks get to where they are. Producers do so much of the grunt-work that the on air talent gets praised for, and they get nothing in return. In addition to great on air talents, you've got to have great people greasing the gears on the ship or they'll just fall right off, and the air talent sinks.
