Christy Springfield

The Inquirer Sunday said Christy Springfield was under contract with Greater Media until January. Do you see any on-air role for her with any of their stations? I think I heard her voicing some commercials on the new format at WPEN. I think her best fit in town right now would be at CC's Sunny. While she has been doing oldies a long time, she came in as an '80's Hot Hits jock.

Would WOGL take her back for weekends?

For awhile, WOGL used her primarily for production and weekends. This is the role I see for her at Greater Media.

As for why they are keeping her, since she arrived later than Charlie and Jim, there may have been a clause in her contract that promised a specific minimum length of service.

She also would be a good fit at New Brunswick station WMGQ, which ocvers a wealthy NJ audience and has listeners in the NYC area markets.

Greater Media's North Jersey Oldies station (WMTR 1250/1170) might be a possibility. I understand she lives in far North Jersey, so it would at least be a much short commute.

The problem is there are a lot more jocks than jobs available. But I suppose, as have so many other out of work jocks, she could always do traffic.

The reason Christy is still under contract & Jim & Charlie aren't is because all 3 of them when they joined WPEN got one year contracts. That means Charlie & jim contracts ran out Sept. 1 so they were workin without a contract for the last month of the station. So WPEN i'm sure let they were under the terms of that contract for the final month. Christy joined WPEN in Jan of this year so thats why she is still stuck over in the land of sucky radio known better as GM

Christy is talented professional. If Greater Media has any sense they'd not only keep her on, but not limit her to production and swing work. I could easily hear her on any of GM's FM stations in the market. And why would she want to go back to WOGL?

I never understood why Christy was relegated to swing or weekends while at WOGL. Unless it was her choice, I think they were mistreating her. Still, it's hard to leave a job you've been at for decades...especially when it's a station that shows no real signs of disappearing any time soon. (That, by the way, would be the reason why Christy might want to go back to WOGL. I'm not saying that she actually does want to go back. I'm just saying that'd be a pretty damn good reason.)

I guess since she works for GM but she's never on the air, she can tell people she's a jock at BEN-FM. "...but I think the studio mic is broken or something."

yeah right...WMMR has enough female voices, Gina crash, Kelly nova and She wouldn't work anyway. and she is not the right fit for MALE oriented WMGK.
She should want to go back to WOGL because their moldy-oldies station isn't about to go kaput ,like any incarnation of WPEN.

I didn't know WMGK was Male oriented? Even so, why would another female voice
on a male oriented station..MMR or MGK be a tune out for them.
I was told by a programmer once..that female voices are used to attract the male demo. (as in recorded drops as well)

I've never heard Christy Springfield..as I haven't lived in the area long.
It's all about content, presentation and personality really. Gender's isn't as much of an issue as it used to be.

Christy will probably turn up somewhere if she has a good agent.

Re: Christy Springfield...good riddance

A little harsh with the good riddance don't you think? You should be so lucky as to keep a job for more than 20 years before you get screwed over by corporate greed.

Christy is a class act in a business with little to no class. She shouldn't have too much trouble catching on somewhere in this market because she is better than you give her credit for.

Good riddance is harsh.
So is screwed over by corporate greed.
It is a very very very ... tight job market for DJs and her style may not be a good fit for urban or contemporary formats. Country might be possible (if she has a taste for it) but no openings now - unless somebody else gets screwed over by corporate greed.
There are a LOT of unemployed DJs (and former DJs doing something else), some of them very talented.
Don't hold your breath.
