CHRs in Sussex

There's a complaint that theres too many Top 40's in NJ, Sussex doesn't have anything. Once you hit Rt. 23 North over in Hardyston, you lose Z100. Once you go back onto Rt. 23 South in West Milford you get Z100 back. There's nothing, B104 doesn't work, KRZ doesn't work, K104 doesn't even work. Their own signals in the area, SUS, NNJ, & Max don't even work that well.

That's what the mountains will do. Magic 98.3's signal behaves weird towards the northwest. There are places where you lose the station completely, and 5 miles further, it comes in like a local again. I've heard it 50 miles away in Stroudsburg.

What does WMGQ have do this with this post about Sussex stations? ??? FYI MGQ'a signal is directional to the North to protect K-Joy, thats why you hear it in parts of PA :p

According to Radio Locater.com 98.3 WMGQ signal is not directional but it has a better signal towards the NW because of less interference from WKJY. Near Asbury park both 98.3's battle it out and at certain times you can only get WKJY if the Atmosphere is right.

Speaking of Sussex County While I was there a few times on route 23 when entering it most NY stations weaken and at the Ski resort I was able to get most of the Hudson Valley stations and on Route 15 they where spots where you would lose NYC stations and at a certain location most would could be picked up except for KTU

All depends on what side of the hill your on in Sussex......If you coming up from the south side all the NYC and NJ stations come in.....Head down the northern side and its all Hudson Valley stations......Tune to frequencies like 92.7 & 101.5 and you see quick changes.....On one side it's 92.7 WQBU & 101.5 WKXW while on the other side it's 92.7 WRRV & 101.5 WPDH.........103.5 WKTU cannot be picked up in Sussex well because of 103.7 WNNJ-FM.

They are semi directional. I was part of the engineering team in 1978 with John Stanley and Jim Jarvis, and good old Clarence Dingman the original engineer when we built the new studio's and put the tower up. I remember taking the circular antenna out of the crate. It had to be positioned the way it was tuned to concentrate more to the NW because of K-Joy. It was the only way they could move from the AM 140ft tower on the river to the 500ft new FM tower. The back up rototilor is underneath it to favor the NW also.
