Radioman wrote:"You really think that Dion can still sing? With all due respect I've seen him a few times in person & on TV and I sure didn't think so. He was completely carried by his young back up singers when I saw him. Agree with you on Martha Reeves. She lost her voice at least 15 years ago."

Dion just released a CD (set 2008) called) Heroes:Giants of Rock and Roll ..listen to cuts on Amazon.com sample section...he sounds pretty good....Dion was never a Jimmy Beamont or Jay Black when It came to great Lead Vocalists....and he was always recorded heavy with Belmonts or De-Satins.....I think he stills sounds up to par with his original sound. You are right my video of Dion In Concert (circa 2005) is also heavy laden with back-up, thats the style of Dion and the Belmonts.........of course I am listening with prejudiced ears(big fan of Dion)...You may have heard something, I didn't want to hear

I'm a big fan of Dion too--always have been. However, IMO he simply can't sing anymore. I have a Christmas CD that he recorded in the 90s. I had to cringe when I listened to it.
I'll try to check out that CD set you mentioned.

beach boys

rosie and the originals

Are there any original Beachboys still touring?

As far as Rosie goes, she didn't sound all that great 50 years ago imho. Must have been a pretty short set, she only had one hit.

Saw Brian Wilson in November 2008. He sounded great, had a lot of energy, but he let his backup band carry the show for him. In fact, he let Jeffrey Foskett sing lead on "Don't Worry Baby." Apparently, he can no longer hit those high notes himself. Foskett also sang the high notes on other songs, although he did not sing lead on anything else.

counterpoint

Angel Baby from The LP "Menlove Ave" by john Lennon
Opening Dedication:
"This Is One Of My All-Time Favorite Songs, I send my Love To Rosie, Wherever she May Be"...John Lennon

Art Laboe (renowned LA DJ):
"The single most requested song on his show for over 45 years"

Frankie Firme - LA Oldies DJ
"Earth Angel and Angel Baby The two biggest hits for multi-generations of East Los Angelenos"

Bobby "Boxman" Box used to play the Spanish version of Angel Baby (Alb market). Anyone know how it may have charted in the Hispanic market in L.A., or was it only a local play?

The Spanglish version is on rotation on the Art Laboe Show....she is still in LL....Bobby has the feel of his audience and can successfully, play an alternate version of a well known peice and score a homerun, it's called innovation and a grasp on his audience that very few have, and he is a great programmer(he's been programming his own show for years) , he just doesnt care for the hassles of a being PD.
