Chuck Brinkman in Texas Hospital

Longtime Pittsburgh radio personality Chuck Brinkman is in a Texas hospital. This was posted by Chuck's daughter.

Chuck Brinkman was involved in a very serious automobile accident yesterday. (Friday 12/16/11) His vehicle was “T-boned” by an SUV near his home in Plano, Texas.
According to his daughter on a Dallas Web site:

“Dad has six broken ribs, one of which collapsed a lung and caused internal bleeding. He also has a large bruise on one kidney causing it to not function. His pelvis and hip are shattered. He remained stable overnight although there are concerns about the bleeding and the kidney. He is getting blood transfusions and dilaudid, the latter of which he reports enjoying. He is totally aware, if stoned. He is a tough guy, as you know, but he is 76 and very badly injured.”

One of Chuck's friends sent me this today. I thought you'd like to know that Chuck was involved in a serious car crash on Friday. He was on his way to work when it happened. I visited him in the ICU that afternoon. He was alert but in a lot of pain. He's in critical condition with a broken pelvis and broken ribs, plus they're having difficulty controlling the internal bleeding. When I stopped by yesterday, he seemed much better and more alert, but the doctors are still concerned and he remains in the ICU. He's in the Medical Center of Plano.

Today, the doctors will try and screw Chuck's pelvis back together. The procedure should take about two hours, barring any problems. In fact, as I write this, it should already be done. Here is the link to a blog written by Chuck's daughter Christene:

I'm told that CB has improved and was able to be moved to an extended care facility for further recovery and rehab.

Good news indeed.
