CHUCK BRINKMAN OUT AT KAAM?

Don't know the story, but Jack Davis is apparently taking over afternoons very soon. Is Chuck retiring or just tired of sparring with Don Jr?

Really. Not clear on why you'd end a 19-year run on the same shift! (Maybe it had to do with 19 years of missing Happy Hours, missing the 6:00 news, missing Sean Hannity, and missing out on the discounted matinee prices.) ;D

I really enjoy Chuck Brinkman. He practices radio the way I was taught (a thousand years ago). And Jack Davis is good, too. So either way I'm OK with it. Just hope neither is leaving.

I guess I like feeling that their "radio" voices and their "street" voices are one and the same.

The word (I heard) on the street is that Cary Richards will take Jack's morning spot. No word about Chuck where is going. At this time, Cary has a show on the weekends called Sinatra and Friends.

Jack Davis is the OM there. He will do afternoon drive. Chuck will take over the mid day slot. So they switched shifts. Last I heard Jaan MCoy was still doing mornings.

Chuck was released from KAAM last week. He's looking if you're hiring. They let him go on his birthday.

This is getting interesting quick. One source THERE ( a good one ) say he will go to mid days and is on vacation) You said he was cut. Hmm smokescreen? and if so why?

"I don't like Chuck! Will you hire him away for me" maybe?

OK, just a thought...

I'm with you on the vacation thing. I'm on one this week as well.

(yeah I know, nobody cares ::) ) :)

I was wondering why you haven't been posting lately, Robert.

Hope you are enjoying your vacation!

Thanks :)

I've been hanging around the engineering and New York boards as of late. ;)

Hopefully, they'll keep Chuck there. He's still on their website (yes, they actually do have a website) so that's a good sign these days. I've had my say about Chuck on here over the years, but once he came down off his KLUV high-horse, he's actually a pretty decent and friendly guy, and knows his music and the biz. I hope a firing won't be the final legacy of his 47-year radio career. He deserves better. But at this point in his career and life, there's really no place left for him to go locally. KAAM was such a good match after losing KLUV, but where else would you put him now? And somewhere that'd pay him properly? Even ABC's "Stardust" format is basically gone (renamed and playing KLUV-type of hits now, and nudging PD Bud Buschardt into retirement in the process.)

I forgot...happy vacation, Mr. Bass! I'm missing your prerecorded "Dallas Fort Worth Weather" at 5:31AM (it reminds me I'm late for work if I'm still in the shower when I hear that.)

Solution for Chuck...I've got it...KARP-990AM, All Carpenters All The Time!! (and yes, he'd probably start the All-Carpenters Christmas Music on October 1.)

Any particular reason? You aren't considering a move, are you?

No move :) I'm following the WCBS topics in the NY board, and following discussions about audio processing / cart machines / transmitter fires, etc in the Engineering board.

I'm staying at KEOM, especially because Mike likes my pre-recorded weather updates. ;D

Actually I prefer Robert's afternoon traffic reports (sorry Mike, but you aint on the air at the time). Robert has a way of describing a jackknifed18 wheeler like no other.

Well, Mr. Brinkman's not there. Mr. Davis is doing his shift and Cary Richards is doing Mr. Davis' shift.

I hope Mr. Brinkman's not out. He's a deserved Dallas radio legend, and this station claims it's "Legends 77...Kay Double A M" So why would they replace him with a kid who has a dance band that plays music that was popular before he was born?

That's not meant to be mean or in anyway critical of Cary. It's just old people like me would rather listen and visit with other old people. "Legends 77...Kay Double A M" or the original KLIF...where's McLendon when you need him.

Why'd Richards move up to Dallas from Houston anyway?

Brinkman's probably still on vacation.

I think I can answer that one.. in 1996, Shadow Broadcasting opened up their doors here in Dallas, and they recruited traffic reporters from not just this area, but those from Houston that worked for Metro Traffic, that was Neal Rohrig, and Cary Richards... with that, Cary settled here, mainly because it was the number 5 market, and he was much closer to the only school in the country that supplied musicians that could handle his type of music.. BIG BAND! He might be a KID by age, but by SOUL, I am here to tell you he is old as DIRT! He knows his music, and he knows the artist, and he knows the history... I am pleased to able to tell you that I have gone to some of Cary's concerts here in Dallas, and if you haven't been to one... YOU are missing out on the best BIG BAND sound I have heard in a long time.. oh by the way-- I was brought up on the Big Band sound by my father who played stand up bass! Nothing beats the rythm of SING SING SING!

Just a thought!
