From Shotgun Tom Kelly on Facebook:
Long-time broadcaster and Production Director, Chuck Cooper passed away this past June at the age of 84. He began his career at KMAK-AM in Fresno in the early 60’s.
From Fresno, Chuck moved to San Diego and became a Boss Jock on 1360 KGB-AM. In 1964 KGB held a huge promotion welcoming the Beatles to San Diego. Chuck was one of the Boss Jocks backstage during their press conference.
Chuck always told the story of how he shared his pack of cigarettes with the Fab Four before they began their performance on stage at Balboa Stadium. A few years later Sunny Jim Price hired him to do evenings on San Diego’s KDEO-AM. He remained at KDEO until he was hired at KSDO-AM/San Diego as their production director. When KSDO-AM was purchased by JACOR (which later became ClearChannel, and currently iHeart Media) Chuck was able to maintain his production career until he finally retired from iHeart in 2016.
