Chuck Dickerson

I ran across the following in a post on Totalbuffalo.net, and just had to pass it along:

You obviously have Internet access. Try going to Google, and typing in "Chuck Dickerson".

You'll find out that:

a) Chuck is/was back in coaching.

b) Chuck was the biggest thing to ever hit Buffalo Radio. Here's a quote from The Lakeland Ledger:

"I became the biggest thing in history in radio in western New York," he said. "Fifty-nine percent of the radios in western New York were turned to me for two hours (on weekday afternoons), and our station didn't even have the Bills. I don't mean to sound egotistical, but it was very successful."

And you wonder why nobody in Buffalo misses him?

A 59 share 12+? Really? Is it possible Chuck had a 59 share in any demographic?

Just wondering...

Where does it say a 59 share. Your post shows 59%. There is a big difference.<P ID="signature">______________

59 Share? 12+? Bwahhhhhhh hahhhhhhhh hahhhhhhhhh!

Sounds like a typical Dickerson take on himself. The master of self-promotion and hyperbole. The EX-Coach never had a 59 share in ANYTHING. Well, maybe if Arbitron measured "Droolers, 18+."

Some of the guys who worked at WGR back in the day might be able to refresh our memories. Mr. Pastrick, are you reading this? Or would you prefer to disavow any knowledge of having worked with this buffoon? People in the know say the guy had pretty good 25-54 Men numbers, but even then 97 Rock rang his bell and The Edge smoked him 18-34 Men.

When WBUF went talk in the afternoon with Opie & Anthony, they ate his lunch and the writing was on the wall. Ask some of the WGR sports reporters how much they enjoyed working with Dickerson. They were trying to do their jobs by objectively reporting the sports news and he made their lives miserable by phissing off every sports player, coach and manager in Buffalo with his ruthless and groundless personal attacks.

Oh, and who can't forget his award winning sycophantic interview with O.J. Simpson. "Hey Juice, ever think of getting back into the movies... I loved you in Smoking Gun..." Cutting edge stuff. Never even mentioned his trial for murdering two people. (Yes, Simpson was acquitted by "a jury of his peers," aided and abetted by the worst prosecution team in America.)

After Dickerson's numbers took a dive, the only people listening to him were malcontents and people who couldn't do enough bhitching, phissing and mhoaning on their own.

But in Chuckie's world, a 20 share might as well be a 59. Surprised that he didn't tell the reporter that he had a 90 share in Buffalo! why stop there? Throw in Toronto too, since he was so fond of telling anybody who'd listen what a great sports icon he was in the CFL.

About a year ago, there was a rumor that Dickerson was calling around to see if any station in Buffalo was interested in bringing his nasty act back to Weastern New York. Seems he was doing so well in retirement in Florida, he couldn't stay away from the business.

If nothing else, your post made me realize that as tedious as it might be to listen to Schopp and the Bulldog, they have at least one asset... they're not Dickerson.

Really? He said 59% of the listening audience was tuned in to him for a two hour period each afternoon. Isn't a share your percentage of the audience that's listening to radio during a given period?

Or does the lughead coach mean 59% of men 25-54 (or another demo) were listening. I would say that sounds high too, but more likely. I'd say the coach is misquoting the ratings.

Well, from what I've read I'm almost sorry I nnever heard him; he sounds like he's so full of himself that his broadcasts must have been funny...although in a pathetic rather than humorous sort of way.

As far as I know, nobody has ever beaten Joey Reynolds' Buffalo numbers. Didn't he have something like 75% of all available listeners back in the day?

Re: Sorry...

...you'll have to read about it in the book, E9.

;-)

Some strong words have been written here and I'd prefer not to get into a literary shooting match. Suffice to say, to the best of my recollection, the strongest afternoon drive numbers came during football season, somewhere in the mid to high teens, AQH Shares, Men 25-54.

Persons 25-54 were lower and Women 25-54 were understandably negligable. The weakest numbers came during the Summer book.

Chuck Dickerson-Returning to WGR

He'll be back on GR to do analysis after Bills games this season

Really?

If so, kiss any chance of WGR getting the Bills broadcasts in the foreseeable future goodbye. And heaven help them if he starts babbling about the Sabres.
