Chuck Douglas leaves 98.9FM The Answer

Good morning! Not sure why, but Chuck has left 98.9 FM The Answer.

There's a post on the Facebook page of 98.9 (https://www.facebook.com/989TheAnswer):

"We are sad to announce Chuck Douglas Radio is no longer a part of our daily lineup. We support Chuck in HIS desicion [sic], thank him for his years of service, and wish him well on his future. Even though this change was a surprise to you (and us) we are working on building an addition to the daily broadcast lineup that will continue to encourage conversation, provoke thought, and provide for the community in which we humbly serve."

He has since posted a youtube video stating he has been confronted with something at the station over the past few years that he's disagreed with and said he couldn't abide by the last one. A guess. Salem over the past few years has been doing cutbacks and salary reductions. COVID has apparently hit them and they've publicly announced additional trims to salaries, benefits and staff. My guess is that may be what happened. He sometimes likes to play hide go seek with things going on with him.
 
Something that was interesting was Chuck announced his departure this way....It is 5:06 p.m. and you are wondering what the heck is going on.

I'm sorry to have surprised you. This wasn't planned.

There is no story to tell, there are no fingers to point, there is no blame to assign, there is no anger and there are no sour grapes. It is what it is.

Remember the fat man rule:

God is in His Heaven and I am Chuck, therefore all things are possible and good things are probable.

We will be together again soon, I promise.

In the meantime, continue to question alleged authority, be healthy, be happy, be prosperous, and most of all be good to each other.

His fans tended to believe he was fired. And there were some that believed that Governor DeWine and Dr. Acton worked together to get him fired. Fans posted questions about why he was terminated on the 989 Facebook page.

Chuck acknowledged later in a video that fans had bombed the WTOH switchboard with calls. He also said he needed to clarify there was no firing. He did say he was confronted with a situation that made him uncomfortable and was one of a few developments over the last year or year and a half. It was the straw that broke the camel's back.

He said he couldn't change or accept it as presented.

Probably could have life easier for the station had he initially told fans he chose to step away from his show. A if he had to take or leave an option presented to him, that to a degree is a finger point. But I digress.
