Chuck Nowlin

I haven't heard Chuck on ZLX in the afternoon in a few weeks! Is he still there??? Very funny guy, it's a damn shame if they let him go!

Speaking of Laquidara, Clea Simon of the Globe reports that WBOS is pulling his morning show after Aug 25
though he may do weekend or occasional shows.

His blog says he's pulling the plug because the hour show was too much work. Life must be rough in Hawaii. ;D Maybe Billy West will hire him for his new morning show.

Charles Laquidara has done so much for this community, he SHOULD be able to enjoy Hawaii. Plus, what is the time zone difference? 8 hours? What time is he doing the program?

Chuck Nowlin is a nice guy, but none of the WZLX weekday on-air personalities have the sizzle. I tune in only for the music. Some of the weekend jocks are superior, some are terrible - there isn't much in between.

WZLX is one of the strangest stations in regards to on-air personalities in all of Boston.

WODS is excellent, WBCN is dreadful - a downward spiral created by the now-departed dictatorship.

I would like to see a shake-up of Morning, Mid-day and Afternoon drive at WZLX. The music needs a good shake-up as well. WODS does it better, even if they are playing a very small rotation of tunes, their delivery is one of the best in New England - and the ratings appear to reflect this opinion.

Vasaline, they have this new stuff called tape and these other new fangeled recording dohickies that actually makes it so that a person can do their show at their own pace and time. Revolutionary stuff, but it's being done. I believe there is reference to in many books in most public libraries. You should check them out during your daily vistits to your published folios. ::)

The music?
Do you tune in when you have a "Tom Petty attack"?
I'd rather listen to someone scraping their finger nails on a chalkboard, opposed to the snore-a-thon that is classic rock.

The WBOS show wasn't live, but he is continuing to do his live Wednesday morning show on non-commercial volunteer community station KEAO 91.5 FM Wailuku, Hawaii 6 to 10 AM Hawaii time. If you have broadband you can hear the stream here Wednesday afternoons. It's "The Big Mattress" free-form like the old days of 'BCN!

Thanks for clarifying, Eli.

MCamp, I agree with you. It is a button on my pre-set, so I create my own "Ipod" shuffle with whatever is on 88.1, 103.3, 100.7, 105.7, the River, etc. etc. But I can tell you- zlx gets less airplay than any of em.
Did like all the CSN & Y they were playing last night - probably because it was the good stuff.

Woodstock, Ohio, Chicago, Long Time Gone, great stuff. CSNY can be like Chuck Nowlin, put ya to sleep, but they do have some lovely classics and those classics seemed to be getting some play.

I like the version of Woodstock on the movie soundtrack, a different mix or take. Nice stuff

They were probably playing CSNY because they were just at the Tweeter Center.

Re: Chuck Nowlin on WBCN

You know, thinking about swaps, why not have Chuck Nowlin on WBCN? He's got that 1960's voice - they really should go to deep album cuts. Chuck's got the laid back voice and certainly knows his music. I'm being serious about this. I would listen to WBCN if Nowlin got the gig, but I think his time on WZLX has run its course. He needs a change. Talented man who needs some new inspiration.

BCN is not courting an audience from the 60's they are trying to attract men between the ages of 18-34. All someone like Chuck Nowlin does is talk about the music and who played what on which album, fine for classic rock but is not enough in the situation that wbcn is in. They had shunned personality for a long time it completely sank the ship and now are considered just a flat music station so they are trying to revive their personality status with Opie and Anthony and Toucher and Rich. If you listen to either show obviously music is not the priority, personality is. CHuck is pretty good at what he does, but what he does is not what wbcn does.

I realize he's been at it for a long time and I really enjoy his personality and sense of humor. He's not edgy or vulgar, but rather subtle when the opportunity arises. He interacts with Frankie Fox during traffic lately. That sounds ok.
