Commander Chuck Street, who has been providing airborne traffic reports for KIIS/102.7 FM for 28 years, was laid off Feb. 3. He had been moved to reporting from the ground Jan. 9 pending a sponsor deal to continue his airborne reporting.
Pepsi's sponsorship expired and, according to Street, "There has been no word from Pepsi regarding our latest proposal. And, unfortunately, I was laid off last Friday (Feb. 3).

K-EARTH or somebody should pick him up.... CC ruins radio, again.
 
They can afford whatever they WANT to afford at Clear Channel, but it is curios that they cut people loose who are at the "almost" 30 year point. But really, they don't have a problem ponying up the dollars for the people they really covet. The rest are expendable if for no other reason than that they draw breath and a paycheck signed in San Antonio. Makes you wonder how Mr. Ashlock will feel the day they can't afford him?
 
Comm. Chuck Street at one time was easily the most-listened to traffic reporter in the U.S. At one time, KIIS, with Rick Dees in the morning, had hit a 10.0 in the ratings. So he probably had more people listening to his traffic reports, in morning and afternoon, than anyone in NYC.

In NYC these days, there are two helicopters covering traffic. One is for All-News WCBS, another is for Bloomberg Busines Radio WBBR.

In LA, with Chuck Street grounded, is there only one traffic chopper for KNX?

There was a time when all the major stations had airborne traffic reporters, both fixed wing and choppers. LA had the most cars, and the best, most accurate reporting. This is where the term "Sig alert" was born. Now the only stations that have copters are TV stations. LA is just like everyone else, getting reports that are sometimes off by a half an hour. And most of those old reporters weren't just reporting the traffic, they were personalities, a part of the shows they were on. A great example was Bruce Wayne who was a big part of KFI's morning show with Lohman & Barkley.
