Chucktown's 95.9 WSPO-FM

Any word when Apex is going live? I seen the job postings for the new station looking for PD and jocks. I saw on another site that WSPO-FM stands for "STAR POWER." Any truth to this?

I don't think stupid is a good word to describe anything right now. When did you ever think the big corporations would let go of their most famous DJ's ie: best well kown that people really like and are use to in both TV and radio to save money. Trading quality and rattings to try and keep a float and make money. Nothing is stupid right now if it works and even if it doesn't.

Unless this is some sort of farce, 95.9 will go sports.

If Star was moving to 95.9, they would have kept the WIOP call sign until sign-on, then probably move the entire kit-and-kaboodle from 99.7 to 95.9...including calls.

A sports station on FM seems like a waste, but based on how well the new 107.5/Columbia is doing, it makes brilliant financial sense in these times. It can be run out of a broom closet with an automation PC and a satellite. Somebody already in-house could do programming, production, board-op, and sales. Nearly $0 in new labor costs with a station that will probably smash any AM competition within a year.

I would be curious to get a link for the job postings. Hiring "jocks" might be a sign of...a new music format???

Apex Broadcasting is building a winning on-air and programming team for WSPO-FM. Apex Broadcasting needs a great Program Director / Manager who can lead this station to victory while hosting a key daypart. We are also looking for air talent that can produce local content and co-host shows. Email your materials and samples to [email protected]. You must include WSPO in the subject line of your email. Apex Broadcasting is EOE/MF

Hmmm, local content? Maybe sports it is. I don't think the whole "Star Power" thing i read on Urbaninsite meant STAR 99.7 was moving to 95.9. Maybe they wanted to keep the STAR branding if Urban Mainstream was to gon on 95.9?

They have had 95.9 listed as country since the initial call letters were WIOP i dont think it bears any significance. How would some random radio website have info on the format for months with everyone else being completely clueless.

I am not worried about what their format will be, but dang when are they going to flip the switch. I haven't even heard a test out of there system yet. Should 95.9 have been called the ghost? waiting in the RF shadows to fill the air waves with a new sound never heard before? I hope it's soon.
