Chuy Gomez: Holy Names? More Like "Holy Hoes"

Second-hand chatter: did anybody catch Chuy Gomez' reference to women at Oakland's Holy Names University as "Holy Hoes" on KMEL?

I didn't hear the broadcast, so I have no idea what the context of the actual conversation was, but, from an email I received, the Holy Names community is reportedly up in arms.

I'm an ex-Catholic with no particular love for the church, but I believe strongly that Catholic institutions teach people to do good work in the community. I've seen plenty of evidence of that. And I also believe that Catholic schools give better educations than most secular institutions.

And who is Chuy Gomez but a cheap-shot DJ anyway? I'd say that he needs a little humility in his life.
 
For some reason I always knew Chuy Gomez was such an idiot.
 
A cheap, easy and quick way to get people talking about
him and see his ratings go up. Just a stunt to get ears
over to 106.1fm, thats all.
 
KMEL is supposed to start running Chuy's pre-recorded* sincere apology this weekend. I haven't listened, so I haven't heard.


* -- Yes, "pre-recorded" means it was recorded before it was actually recorded. Very existential.

...But not to everybody. Some women like being called "hoes"! I guess when the attorneys drafted the apology, they wanted to leave a bit of wiggle room just in case.

We all learn from our mistakes and I have learned from this one.

Nothing like on-the-job training, right? Most of us learn at an early age not to call other people names, but you're still young and learning (judging from the photo, you're still in your teens). Heck, most of us remember just a few years ago when some guy back east lost a plum gig for calling the Rutgers womens basketball team "nappy-headed hoes"...

It seems as if Chuy Gomez has been on local radio for a long time. Unless I'm mistaken he's about 30. Also, his first name is, oddly enough, Jesus. So much for his righteous Catholic upbringing. Somebody failed somewhere.

I notice that his apology is an excuse, an "it was not my intention...", which to me is no apology at all. What he's doing is telling people that THEY misinterpreted him. This is so typical of ego-centric media stars. It makes me sick.

I agree with 1069_KIFR. More likely than not, it was a stunt to get attention.
 
Stunts can (and do) back fire and when they do management hangs the air folks out to dry (solo) so the parent company dosen't end up in court.....remember KSJO's Perry Stone and the girl scouts comment?
 
One of the market managers that was over WiLD way back in the Dogs days used to joke that he spent more time keeping them out of court than anything else!

I don't know about the Perry Stone incident, by I recall that Clear Channel had to shell out a half-million dollars in fines related to Mancow's stunt that snarled traffic on the Bay Bridge.

Clear Channel didn't even own the station (Wild 107) at the time of the stunt - but they did a few years later by the time the judgment against KYLD came in..."justice delayed" and all that.

And they couldn't even fire Mancow - he was long gone (to Chicago) by that time.
 
In reqards to the Perry Stone comment which by the way made national headlines back in 1989 Stone had called a 17 year old a dirty name (which I will not mention) on the air and then told local girl scouts to embezzle money from the sales of girl scout cookies and after numerious complaints to both the station, the stations owner and the FCC "KSJO" in San Jose "let him go".

I doubt seriously that the station or it's parent company was behind those comments but the stations owners are responsible for their "air staff" actions or comments while on the air and must act accordingly or risk the possiblity of legal action.

Again look at KNBR for another example with the San Francsico Giants comment made on the air and look at the "house cleaning" Sesquanhana did.
