Yes, I do remember the NFL allowing 2 games for both the first and last weeks of the season, my question is what's the deal with week 2 thru 17, this one game only on one network on Sunday is kind of ridiculous. There's more than enough games to broadcast for both networks.

The answer, as with most NFL decisions is money. The networks like that exclusive late afternoon game, it gets the highest ratings of the day, usually even higher than Sunday Night Football. If both networks had late games you'd split the ratings and the networks couldn't charge as much for their ads. So most of the season they alternate between getting to show one or two games on a Sunday.
