Cincinnati/Dayton Radio Predictions 2012

I don't need to back up my statement! Nor do I know what an aircheck is? You defend your friend and thats fine, I made my statement and stand by it. My comment if you payed attention to it was simple...If he is going to judge other talent then perhaps his own talent should be questioned first. Im not saying the morning guy on KC was good, but don't thorw stones at a guy who lost his job because his company shut his station down. Beside, I do listen to the news in the morning and Jason does slur, stumble, talk himself out of breath and misspronounce words...Just listen sometime! That to me sounds like a person who has no right to judge...I'm done!

Someone with your lack of actual radio experience is not competent to criticize anyone...Just my opinion, you understand.

Jason, I respect your opinion,

and again, I don't claim to know radio or it's inner workings. I just love my local radio stations and do listen a lot, but you slammed a radio guy who lost his job because his company decided to shut down his station.

( Jason...this was Your comment...."I'm sure you would.  But, if it happens count on K-99 to eat their lunch...especially if they keep the old morning show host" )

...Weather he was good or not doesen't warrent you slamming him. You claim quite a bit on these boards to be a professional broadcaster and a teacher at a broadcasting school. It sure doesn't show much maturity or Professionalism with your harsh comments made about a fellow broadcaster, now does it? Im my opinion your comment that you made opened the door to criticism from anyone, including me.

Oh, and I do listen to your newscasts on 95.7 at work each day and stand by my criticism of you, As an experienced listener and My opinion!

Question...Isn't the listener and their opinion Important any more?

@Jason, You are a very Arrogant person, Plain and simple. You knock a morning show and personality who was under paid and trying his best with what he had? Really? And the compare K9 to KC and make a poor comment about how you would eat their lunch? Grow up man!!! Ive heard your news cast...reading until you are out of breath, stumbling through words and miss-pronouncing word...You sir are no Judge of talent!!!

This is from a listeners point of view and I won't debate ratings or signal because I don't know anything about those things, but I do understand Arrogance! You need a lesson in humility. Feel free to take a jab at me, Im a big man I can take it. I may work for the phone company but I work without putting people down when they are down.

OK, Im off my soap box now. I do enjoy Click and this its a good station when I can pick it up. I hope it succeeds.

Jason just stated what he thought would happen, the post is not harsh.

Andy, the former K/C morning show host is a personal friend of mine. He has a heart as big as gold and I have not heard him criticize any one else. He can read as well as any other. So I am asking you to keep that in mind and if you would not say something to his face that is personally demeaning, please do not do it on here.
I remember when he first started at WKSW, I remember his dedication, sense of humor, ability to make others laugh when we thought we couldn't or thought we did not want to, I remember how he would give another the shirt off his back to help another. He is a great person, a good father, a dedicated man in his profession. And even with his faults, he is a better man than I. Yes, he still works in the business. Why? Because he adapted to both sides of the mic.

I could never say lite 99.9 even though she was our sister station during my tenure at WDOL. I stumbled over words sometimes. I have stumbled into stopsets with my head up my ass, got through it and learned a valuable lesson. I have been fired. I have been rehired. I have done a few things that would deserve significant criticism. But whether or not you think Andy (former KC morning host) was great or not, have some respect for him as a person. I would never think to criticize ANY of you at whatever profession you do, let alone in public where others can see it.

While I do not know you well Kevin Fodor, we have met. I think to some extent we have similar thoughts about radio as a business etc. Have you made mistakes on the air? Well you are human. I would never bring them to light in public. You could always say that you DO have a job in the business and minimize my opinion through that avenue. But with sooooo many cut in this business because they were a salary on a piece of paper, it is not a good example IMO. But then again I am NOT the type of person to even bring up any mistakes you have made. WHY? I DO RESPECT you. Yea, I do. So guys spread some of it around for ANDY, my friend, a GREAT guy.

I want to stop and say that we have gotten off point as to this posts original purpose: Cincinnati/ Dayton Radio Predictions 2012.
I know some people in the local radio community. And I will NEVER, EVER, repeat confidential information.
Having said that, I do find it interesting the different view points and predictions. Can we get back to that?
Talk amongst ourselves about our passion and remember, A LOT of great people read these posts from local and from far away.

Please do not spend time back tracking about what was said. The words are there for all to see. Let's just move on.........

Jry,

That's not fair to Tony. Either say it if you know it or don't bring something like that up.

In my decades in radio I have NEVER made a single on-air mistake. I also have the fourth winning ticket in the recent Mega-Millions lottery, have invented a perpetual motion machine, and discovered a planet just out past Pluto! "Liar Liar, Pants On Fire"!
::)
As far as traffic goes, remember when there were at least 4 choppers/planes buzzing overhead during AM and PM drive-times doing Cincy traffic? Prediction: Some great radio station will try using an Air Force surplus drone for traffic reports before the end of the year.

Then they realized it cost money! Oops no more good traffic.

@Zburns,

Very well said and very nice words about Andy. I don't know him but he sounds like a great guy. I'm glad he is still living his dream :)

A "Fresh" type AC for WYGY if it did well and was executed properly could help Hubbard put away the competition with females 25-54, with Q102, Rewind and B105 in the building. It would also protect the cluster better. It couldnt be a Journey 80s,90s and Today type of station but a 90's,2k and today similar to Hubbards KS95 in Minneapolis, I used to work in that market and what a great sounding station that is.

Dont want to say I told you so but I told you so. AC no longer an option for 97.3 with the arrival of 100.7 The River. Was my thinking they need to protect Q102 and Rewind and could do it without a lot of duplication of titles. Maybe Clear Channel got the Memo.

The only options left for 97.3 would be Urban AC, Classic Hits which might hurt Rewind or a talk format such as sports talk or A hot talk with younger vibe, with local personalities then they could run mono which would help a bit with the signal.

Like both options and Hubbard has a succesful Sports talk in St. Louis. A "Drive" format similar to the one they run in Chicago may work, pull from the Fox and WGRR. Honestly they waited to see what happened with Great Country 94.1 too long and though it could sound much better it has managed to achieve Cumulus's goal of putting WGRR at the top two months in a row and caused B105 to fall to fourth so the strategy with Great Country could be better, the music not so bad, the imaging awful, no slickness and slower to add new titles than B105 which is conservative to add new titles. B105 has weaknesses but Cumulus has yet to figure that out. If Great Country wants too succeed they need skew younger, take a few risks, cut back on the chatter, get a real morning show get a new name and fix the imaging. Lots of room for improvement. Hubbard simply dropped the ball with 97.3 and waited till the damage was done and while attempting to protect the big country station in the cluster, did little to protect the other stations in the cluster imho.
