Cincinnati Radio Explodes

Big changes going on in Cincinnati Radio this week so I came to the board for the scoop only to find nobody home. Doesn't anybody post here anymore. The 97.3 thing is old. Where's the scoop on the other stations? I heard Steve Mann and J.D. Hughes on 103.5 today so I suppose that move is done and their in the old Mojo studios now. It will be interesting once the WGRR jocks make the move since the music seems very different today.

It's nice to hear that the WGRR staff is making the move. They're some of the best talent and best people in town and I'm glad they are landing on their feet.

What' the scoop on the future for 97.3 and 96.5. The rumor mill has us with one going all-Christmas for now while the other goes all talk (Welcome, Mancow). Can anyone give us some more dirt?

I didn't even know ka-blooey was even a word till I looked it up. *LOL!*

Would seem to describe terrestrial radio in general, dontcha think?

Sorry, but the temptation to respond simply overwhelmed me. :) *LOL!*

Since 96.5 has been stunting with old episodes of the Twilight Zone... the best bet is to listen and see what happens. It won't be long. Oh, and yes, it's talk. That's old news too, it's been all over the trades and on this board. If anyone is a doubting Thomas, you need only look at the fact that 96.5 is now broadcasting in mono - perfect for talk radio.

With that sorry looking lineup, it shouldn't leave the tower.......

and I like talk radio, just not these clowns. I was thinking 96.5 would at least get "B" grade talkers. These guys are "C" grade at best in my book.

I agree, get Furman and some other local talkers. ____ this syndicated garbage, there's enough of that with CC.

I think it will just be a matter of time and 96.5 will get a decent lineup. The majority of radio listeners listen based on signal, and 96.5 has the third largest daytime coverage of a talk station based in Cincy (behind WLW and KRC of course) as well as a hi-fidelity FM signal. Give it a chance, it definitely has some potential.

They really should have a better gameplan in place if they're going to tackle FM Talk. Some of the most successful FM talkers are ones that have a fair amount of local programming accompanied by syndicated talkers that are, at worst, somewhat well-known. Mancow isn't necessarily a bad choice. He at least has made a name for himself, but I find myself looking at the rest of the line-up thinking...Who's that? That's not a good thing in a market like Cincinnati that has many established news/talk stations. I wish them the best of luck, nonetheless. It'll be interesting to see how the fare in the upcoming books.

I don't believe Mancow is a good fit with the other hosts. It seems as though he is going after the Stern-Bob/Tom-Dawn Patrol listeners, while O'Reilly, Rusty Humphries and the others cater to the Rush/Hannity/McConnell/Cunningham listeners.

Mancow's show has changed a lot. A few years ago, it would have been an odd fit. I listened to most of the show this morning, and I think that it will do well in Cincinnati. It well segue into Glenn Beck perfectly. It's nothing like O&A or Stern anymore.

With the weak performance of many of the Free FM's, it might be smart go the conservative route. I could live without the Sporting News Radio filler, and a local afternoon host shouldn't be too much to ask for. I've never heard Valentine, but I'll listen to the rest of the lineup.

Cincinnati is not exactly known for its liberal slant. Conservative, Catholic, and Republican are better terms to describe the majority of the population.

I have a feeling the lineup will change somewhat over the coming months, there can't have been much time for Cumulus to choose.

Wylly Wylly nailed it, Cincy is conservative with a capital C. Nuttin' wrong with that, just an observation. Today was my first listening experience for Mancow. ZZZZzzzz. Sporting News is the distant third place behind ESPN and FOX. There's a reason for that, mediocre talent. Didn't have time to check out all the hosts today. I was busy helping the Cincinnati Police, trying to find the thief that stole WGRR's processing. C'mon Cumulus, it's real radio, not some lame internet stream from someone's basement. Oops, there I go smacking Mancow again. Hope he's having fun broadcasting next to his washer, dryer and hot water heater down there. Listen and be amused as 97.3 goes country. How about 96 Rock, back and not too cleverly disguised at 95 Rock (94.9). Could happen! Ain't all this turmoil fun? Sure, as long as YOU didn't get fired this week!!!

I listened to Mancow this morning and I just have to say yuck. Maybe as a Howard fan I'm a little biased, but he's a lame Howard imitator and on top of it all, a conservative. I listened to his comments about John Kerry and I had to switch to something else. So I switched to Rover. Boy is that a train wreck. Somebody else mentioned how annoying his female sidekick is, and she is annoying with a capital "A". I prefer Robin Quivers any day. Morning talk in Cincinnati is pretty lame except for maybe the Young Turks, but I tried listening to them this morning as well but I could barely pick them up.
