"Circuit City and HD Radio"

The Big HD Radio Rollout will fail, at stores that only carry it online such as Circuit City, because very few are going to spend $300 on a radio that they cannot touch, most people don't like bothering with mail-in rebates (iBiquity, just to get a head-count of HD radios sold, is going to find this out, instead of putting them directly on-sale), and negative reviews on-line. Stores that carry HD Radio in-stock will also fail, because of the poor reception, which mandates the use of dipoles - stores will be forced to hook-up external dipoles, which hopefully most people would figure out, so it is probably not worth the bother. With the rebates going directly to iBiquity, instead of the manufacturers/retailers, makes me think iBiquity is worried ! :D

Read it and weep, ElCheapo ! :D :D :D

Not only does Circuit City have no product to sell, they're already too late for this holiday season. Fourth-quarter sales, as any broadcast sales person can tell you, are planned months in advance. Getting this going now is too little, too late.

WHAT STORES that "carry HD Radio"? I can't seem to find any. BTW... 'Nothing wrong with the use of an FM dipole... EVERY superior FM tuner required one to deliver it's achievable performance... My Macs and Denons did (in the audiophile world)--BUT dependence [by the table-radio HD-Receptor, when the original mono analog version with its dangling little wire connected to but one terminal labeled "FM Antenna"] delivered great reception--is a VERY DIFFERENT case. These new "HD Radios" are reception DOGS! How can you expect to sell HD Radio to a modern-day class that just expects to "plug 'n listen" in a metro area when the overpriced radio requires "nearly professional attention" in the form of a perfectly-deployed accessory antenna to make it work--within the 60dbu signal contour... Give me a break!

With my little RS AM/FM PLL radio, I don't even need to extend the whip antenna to get whatever FM station I want...

"Circuit City to sell HD radios alongside Satellite radios"

It is going to be tough selling HD radios online, when there are nice in-store displays for Satellite Radio ! :D

Read it and weep, ElCheapo ! :D :D :D

What is there to weep about? The retailer is dipping their toe in the pool instead of jumping in - I can live with that at this stage in the game. Having a display in Circuit City stores will raise awareness.

How long until we read about your arrest for defacing one of the displays?

As for waiting for your product, sure - instant gratification is better - but Dell has thrived by doing business this way.

Yes, but with a huge (and very effective) ad campaign.

Yea, when the few HD Radio customers read all the negative reviews online ! Unfortunately, there will be no displays to deface, because HD Radio is all online - and no HD Radio displays at RS, either ! Actually, I am only a 20 minute drive to iBiquity headquarters in Columbia, Md... :D You see, iBiquity is 2 years late paying back investors, and HD Radio has missed another Christmas, and the Cartel has the Receptor HD as their big rollout ! Too little, too late ! Well, I am very glad you can live with this ! :D

Interesting - they're all over the Metroplex...

Awareness? People are aware of what horse pucky is, but they're not going to buy it without a real need. It takes A LOT MORE than awareness to sell a product. Marketing 101.

Ok i bought one, I have a JVC cast me $200.00 on line. Yes there is a diffrence when I can get HD on it. In Dayton CC has rolled out on every station and WFCJ the Christian station in town just rolled theres out. What I think is funny is how much the HD just drops out fro no reason. I was a block from one of CC stations ' towers and it just dropped out and did not come back for several seconds. Me thinks we still have some buggs to work out. ???

Sounds like the same problem with digital phones ! This is one reason why a number of HD Radios will be returned, if the HD channels can be picked up at all, the other is the same old lousy terrestrial radio content (there are a handful of talk shows still worth listening to on nighttime AM).

I thought the radio was supposed to fall back to analog, not to silence.
Did you miss some audio, or did you notice the switch in audio?
I'd much rather have one word garbled by noise than have a confused buffer and miss 8 seconds of audio.
Supposing it was something important. This is why decoding logic is best when it's in your head, not the radio's head.
This also accounts for the 300% more power consumption than live radio.
"Live", meaning we hear the syllables at the SAME TIME as they are spoken, not after analysis, compression, buffering, transmitting, more analysis, and more buffering.

If the main channel is dropping to silence, something's wrong with the radio. There is NO fallback for HD2 or HD3 signals.

Circuit City in Fenton, Missouri, a western suburb, had no HD radio products. They did have two car radios that could accept an HD upgrade, but did not carry the HD box. They said they had a Polk Audio HD system, but well, they didn't actually HAVE one there.
And they had the BA, but not in the store...that was online only.

They strongly recommended satellite systems.

Still waiting to audition FM HD.....
