Circuitwerkes Sicon 8

Hi there,

I was wondering if any of you were using a Sicon 8 for your transmitter remote control.
Do you like it? Do you like the web interface? I need an honest opinion.

Thanks
JR

JR, I have four of them so far and am going to be installing another four over the period of the next year at various places. I love them. They have tons of features and the cost is right enough to get owners to buy them without flinching too much. With that being said, there are some little oddities with this remote control, just like there are with most others. For the most part they can be dealt with and made to work as you'd like. Their support, although just a "small" company BLOWS Burk away. They actually will answer the phone and have the guy that knows (the owner) call you back if he doesn't answer himself. Burk, for all their costs, has got really sloppy on support. Burk also seems to subscribe to the "oh that's too old. Pay us to upgrade" thought. I didn't. I left their P.O.S. VRC in the pile for surplus and bought a Sicon. I haven't looked back, except to laugh. I can remote in by my cell phone to a local computer at the site and see all my readings. The voice remote works great too as a backup and is best for reporting alarms to you. It also is smart enough that if you turn off the transmitter, it doesn't pester you for an "amarm". Tired of your current remote calling for power winks? Cool. The Sicon doesn't even start bothering you until your off for several seconds. Also, the Sicon has a "PDA" web interface that will work with nearly anything including the stupidest "smart phones". Quarks? Yeah. The Sicon-8 does have a few, mainly in the PC software, but they are working them out. Overall I would HIGHLY recommend the unit, especially for those on a budget. Real support, real reliable, and really nice features...

+1 on the support. Circuitwerkes is always quick to respond and eager to work out any issues.

Thank you so much! That's exactly what I needed to hear. Glad I'm not the only one a little frustrated with "legacy" transmitter remote control!

JR

Yup. Poor support from "the legacy vendor" cost them about $20,000 so far in sales. After the last one here is switched out and replaced and I get the other three on for another client, that number will jump up even more. Ooops! Guess that $500 "upgrade to the new version of Lynx" didn't work out quite like they planned eh? LOL! I'm so happy to have something that is economical, supported, and RELIABLE... and decodes touch tones properly too! :)

Years ago, when CircuitWerkes was getting started, I called to ask a question about the inside workings of one of their interfaces. Not only did they fully answer my questions, but they then mailed me a schematic diagram of the box. Good stuff.

Kyle, the owner/president of Circuitwerkes is a very good guy, and more than willing to help you with questions or problems. It's a small company that cares about their clients, even years after the sale.
