Citadel and Clear Channel

Any thoughts on what will affect Albuquerque radio stations of Citadel
and Clear Channel?

Huge debt load for Citadel..and well..Clear Channel is Clear Channel..loads of problems.

Well, first things first. There's probably someone who's going to get KTEG and KABQ from Clear Channel, KBZU from Citadel and KQBT from Univision. That would make another full-sized cluster in the Albuquerque market. There have been rumors Peak Broadcasting would like into Albuquerque, and this could be their best chance, especially after Centennial got the Univision stations. However, that's far from a given.

As for what happens after that, it's anyone's guess. One of my friends tends to think Citadel will find itself in bankruptcy court in the next six months. I'm not entirely convinced of that because publicly traded companies can stave off bankruptcy for a long time by exchanging stock for debt. However, I could still see it happening. After all, I know I wouldn't be too likely to write off debt with Citadel stock if they owed me a lot of money!

There are also rumors that there will be another round of Clear Channel divestitures once round 2.0, which would involve KTEG and KABQ, is finished. I remember hearing the potential new Clear Channel owners don't want to be in any market below 50. Time will tell if that's really true. If it is, there will be more Albuquerque divestitures.

Interesting thoughts Kent.
On the one hand, the stations are already here that are on the block, so another group(s) picking them up will open doors
to new formats. So it wouldn't be adding brand new signals to the already oversaturated market.
There are some nice clusters that can be put together. This will be interesting.

Concerning Citadel, it would be hard to imagine them going bankrupt, but these are extraordinary times for radio.

Yeah...especially with a $1.55 a share stock (down from $11 just eight months ago) is stunting on it's website that KKOB is dropping night power to 1,000 watts at night Tuesday, April Fool's Day.

Someone should be careful, before Farid gets the idea to do it to save $$$$ on those 50-gallon flamethrowers he owns.

Stock still dropping. Was a dollar a share before the big shakeup a couple of weeks ago. Just doesn't seem to get any traction.

This uncreative ruse could be a reason why.

Magic 8 ball says Citadel BK all the way
Clear Channel another buyout from a bigger fish
