Citadel dumps HD Radio in Tucson

The Citadel FM stations recently switched off HD Radio on KIIM-99.5 and KHYT-107.5. Several months ago they turned off the digital noise that was coming from 97.5. Two likely reasons: 1) Citadel is in a financial mess and they need to save money on the license fees from iBiquity. 2) Citadel realizes that the public isn't buying the HD Radios so they were essentially programming to nobody.

The main benefit is that there no longer is hiss on the first adjacent channels. So if you live in the outlying areas you may hear stations on those channels that were covered up with the digital noise.

How long before the other group operators follow Citadel's lead? Is Citadel doing this in other markets?
Too bad this didn't happen a year ago.

My biggest complaint is that stations turned on HD...and that was it. No creative, enticing content. Same old "same old"...

I would say your #2 is the more likely reason, or perhaps they are tired of polluting the airwaves for nothing which actually is reason #2 again isn't it? And... better late than never.

And I guess they were tired of buying those "carbon mic offsets" too. ;D

Closed circuit for Cheap Channel: why don't you turn off the I-CRAP on
KWFM 1450? The signal is horrible enough as it is, and this just makes
it worse.

I'm not a fan of any of their stations, but KSZR seems like a waste of a frequency...from a listener standpoint. I wish they'd dump that.
