Citadel going down

From the New York Board

Bloodbath at Shitadel Dallas Today!

Many were fired today. Many who worked their for 20+ years got only 2 weeks severance!!!! Farrid needs 150 million by Jan 15 and has only $46 million on hand. Firing all the full-timers in dallas surely won't help. What a SCHMUCK!

Why do you seem so happy?

My whole post was a quote from another person. Not one word except for the subject title (Citadel going down) was mine. I'm just passing the message along since Citadel has an important presence in this city. I'm not happy at all. The demise of others doesn't make me happy. However winning a few million in the lottery would probably cause me to grin.

As I noted in a previous post there will be a casualty or 2 on the trail.Trust me....

Citadel escaped the blood bath last time. I can almost guarantee that they won't be so lucky this time. Citadel will look at the highest paid people and then go CHOP CHOP. Every employee there should buy their Christmas gifts this weekend while they still have a paycheck. I anticipate the Holiday firings that have become so common in radio every year. Citadel really has no choice. Not this time.

Well Buddy is the one who makes the biggest bucks but I understand he brings in lots of ad dollars too. If sponsors buy the man and not the numbers, regardless of how well he does I think he is protected. At this point De Petro looks like somebody up there likes him. That leaves York and Allen and I have no idea how well they do or don't do. WPRO-AM isn't the only station in the building anyway so there are other places to cut. Now it's a matter of whether or not they just offer up some lower paid people as a token just to show they saved money

My guess is that Allen makes peanuts. I think he will be safe. Then again they may look at him as the easiest to replace by moving Savage back to 7 PM. It's really a situation of russian roulette. That gun can go off on any one of them. I do think somebody will get shot down. However no idea who it will be.

If Matt Allen was fired by WPRO at 5PM, he'd be hired over at WHJJ by 5:01.

You give Clear Channel way to much credit. These are the guys who are responsible for making every dumb move in radio over the past several years. I highly doubt that they would suddenly start making smart ones.

I don't think anybody that's under contract has to worry. Maybe as contracts run out, but I don't think Citadel wants to eat a contract and then have to pay somebody albeit less on top of that to take over. There looking for instant cost savings.

Good point. But the Million Dollar Question is... When do some of these contracts run out? Anyone know?

I believe Citadel Providence is one their more successful clusters; so I don't imagine they will look to PVD for the most significant cuts.
However; if necessary; much like Clear Ch; they will look to remove people first that do not have a major impact on programming or line-ups. Citadel stations in RI are very successful with exception to 790. If anything; I would look for consolidation of managements (PRO, Fun, and HOT can probably share 1 PD and 1MD).
Where to look for other possible changes:
Fun - Given the nature of what happened to the morning show; I think they will want to keep things in tact. Mike Rock may fill any gaps created by moves in EP.
PROfm - Not much would change, 3rd wheels or PM hosts more at risk. Jess would probably fill any gaps created by moves here or at HOT.
PROam - Sally at most risk. Could be replaced by a less expensive or shared resource. Hummel filling any gaps may make sense.
HOT- VT / syndication. Jess, Rock, C. Fox, VT anything that needs to be covered.

No he wouldn't (that would be a salary that CC would have to take on and they are in a worse position than Citadel) and what makes you think Matt would want to go over there?

Even though station values are a bit down these days...Would Citadel entertain the possibility of spinning off 790 for some quick cash?
While there are no ratings, what is on 790 is paid to be on 790 or (in the case of the Yankees) money coming in....why would they spin it off if they have nobody in the building they are paying to be on the station!?!

If Citadel had really wanted to, HOT and 790 could have been sold a long time ago..selling them now at a fire sale price is always a possibility, but if Citadel were serious, it would have been done by now..

No one has mentioned that one of the first places Citadel can cut is news..eliminate it on weekends, etc..those bodies are always easy to slice if you need to..not putting the onus on anyone there, but reality is reality in this business..

If you start slicing talk show hosts, you damn well better have a Plan B in place..if you don't, the audience will go elsewhere if they don't want to hear a replacement develop a foothold in the market..and I doubt if Citadel is going to want to pay anybody for a year or more..it cheaper to keep what they have in place short term...and let the bankers sort it out when its time..

DePetro's contract is coming up soon, and he is in the crosshairs. Now that his protector is no longer a part of ABC radio, the ratings scandal will take it's toll. St. Pierre could easily move back into the hosting of the Morning News slot where he acheived higher ratings than J.D.'s best. Oh let me rephrase that... his legitimate ratings.

Allen is good, but he's not hardcore like the other Providence hosts. Personally that is why I like him better. But in typical Providence radio fashion, they don't always hire the best. They hire someone who sounds like they could fit in working at the State House instead. Talk shows in this state are to political in my opinion. Allen doesn't have that sound. He's more of a rebel and a whole lot funnier than your typical stale sounding talk show host. I think HJJ would skip right over him and hire Yorke or Depetro first. But that is ONLY if HJJ was going to hire ANYBODY...... which I don't think they will.

HJJ would pick up Depetro at 5:01. Buddy & Hummel middays...

Yeah if all three want to donate their time, work free, and use it as a tax write off.
