Citadel Goings ON

Now that Citadel has the major market stations that they had been hoping to have for quite some time, what will happen to the smaller stations? You know they now have ABC Radio along with stations in NYC, Chicago and other major markets and are definitely going to focus most of their attention on them. So, what becomes of the Tri-Cities, Knoxville, Chattanooga and the like? I certainly hope that if they do sell some of the above-mentioned properties, they'll be sold to some outfit that truly believes that "people are their most important asset."

I'm sorry I know you meant well but damn that was funny "people are their
most important asset." LOL C'mon once they train the monkey's how to run the control board, load commercials and print a commercial log people are done.

If Bobo can travel in outter space, he can certainly handle an overnight shift. Think about it, monkeys don't talk. You don't have to pay them and they'll probably bring the station van back with a full tank of gas.

I wasn't meaning to be funny. But, as most of you Citadel and ex-(BLEEP)-a-del people know, "People are our most important asset" used to be their mission statement. Now, it might as well be "Damn, we hit the motherlode!" Citadel people, be afraid--be very afraid. It's coming.

I hope you weren't implying that Russ is a Citadel employee. That would be funny, given the feelings involved there.

Yeah, if you're a frequent visitor of this board there would be no mistaking me as a Citadel employee. But it's not that I have anything against Citadel, just one Giant Jackass in the Knoxville operation who had his chance, didn't take it and the rest is history as my signature below suggests :)

No implying involved at all. I'm a former Citadel employee, and that's all I'll say about that.

In the event that you actually wanted an answer to your questions, I thought I'd pass this along...

You are correct, Citadel has been wanting to have some major market stations for a long time. However, they have been wanting them to complement and complete their portfolio, not to replace any of it. The ABC purchases are an effort to plug a gap they now have in order to make them look much better to national advertising buyers. I believe they are interested in creating a nationwide network of stations, as what better way to do that than to buy an already established and respected network, i.e. ABC Radio. Of course, they've made their money to this point by concentrating on local stations. Expect to see that continue, at least in drive times and in other slots where particular stations do well with advertisers. Then expect them to fill in other times with ABC Radio programs and formats, and because they will be owned 52 percent by Disney shareholders, expect to see them have extended relationships with the Disney-retained properties as well.
