CITADEL IN A YEAR

Maybe I should say less than a year, but I'll go with a year even though the Cumulus closing Labor Day. What's everyone's take on what will happen?
PRO-FM: Back to the 2 main players only on the morning show. Jay Buff is temporary. Middays piped in. Jessica to PM drive. Davey doesn't celebrate year 21. Bristol is iffy. He's doing a lot so he's an asset.
LITE: No change mornings. DeGraide tracks middays as he does now. No PM drive change if Tony stays. Art Spencer unfortunately will go.
HOT: Who knows? They still haven't hired a morning team. I could almost see D-Pain and Deanna moving to mornings and nothing else local. Their listeners won't care. Also who knows if this format is even viable much longer or if Cumulus will even want to keep this dog.
PRO-AM: Don't know enough about what Cumulus does with talk radio, but this is one expensive puppy to run. This could be the year someone goes-maybe Yorke.

Cumulus is not nearly as cheap as Clear Channel. With that said, the purchase of Citadel means that Cumulus will be picking up an unfathomable amount of debt.

There are many Cumulus markets - including several smaller than Providence - in which stations are live and local or voicetracked and local. And as far as I know, Cumulus has no plans for a Premium Choice-type intra-company voicetracking system. Let us hope that the Providence market stays unscathed.

One idea regarding Hot 106. Since its signal compliments 99.7's (with 99.7 covering South County and 106.3 covering northern Rhode Island), does anyone think 106.3 might ultimately become part of a WPRO trimulcast? It would mean state-wide FM coverage for WPRO.

I acctually like the idea of a trimulcast with 106.3.Only if Hot is'nt doing it.AM's going FM is the way everyone is going.

Just a thought that will not happen.WPRO on 99.7 and 106.3 and leave the Hip Hop for CC to place on 93.3.This way everyone has thier own format and there are no duplicate formats.

I like your idea, Kenny. Can you imagine what Clear Channel would do with a CHR/Rhythmic format on 93.3? They'd probably just simulcast Jamn, despite the fact that the signals overlap so much.

Why Yorke, how about the station bad boy "JD"or the conceited highly
paid guy who thinks he runs the station......PROBABLY DOES.
:'(

Strangely enough, the idea of 106.3 simulcasting 630 sounds good. I'd ask Channel 12 for permission to use
WPRI-FM on 106.3, with WPRV on 99.7, and 790 getting back the heritage WEAN call.

It's too bad WPRO can't be heard in Taunton when it's on its night pattern. 99.7 gets hit with QRM in town.

Why the JD bashing everytime WPRO comes up? He can't be doing that bad of a job if there was talk to simulcast him on other stations. I thought that is why they moved him.
Also,Is he still doing the Saturday night show for the Washington D.C. station?
JD and Buddy are both regulars on FOX NEWSChannel as contributors.Mostly Sean Hannity.

Nothing against Dan personally I can see him leaving before the rest of them.I think it would be a mutual decision though.
With the tie with Hannity's TV show. I can see WPRO going after Hannity to air 3-6 and moving Buddy to 12-3.
Citadel does air HAnnity in Conn.

I can't for the life of me figure out why everyone on this board thinks that Yorke is on his way out of wpro.
He hosts "the show of record" on "the station of record".
The fact of the matter is that out of everyone who works at wpro, Dan Yorke is their best all around host.
Andrew Gobeil is terrible, Tara Granahan is getting her footing, DePetro is second to Yorke, Buddy and Ron are a solid third over there, and Matt is breaking in to the business.
At the end of the day, Yorke has the most talent, he is a professional, and puts a lot of work into his broadcast.
Why cumulus would come in and mess with what is a solid line up blows my mind.
If they were to get rid of anyone that would be a mistake.

By the way, I think that the idea for the three station broadcast with WPRO as the anchor and 99.7 and 106.3 on FM would be fantastic.

I seriously think Citadel everyone would win on this one.I also believe a simulcast of Jamn on WSNE would be a hit.I know so many people who tune into Jamn over HOT in Providence now.Put it on a strong RI signal.I think it would work.

As for WPRV 790. Spanish talk with a couple of local hosts mixed in with syndication. we don't need to bussiness stations in Providence. EXPECT a change on 790 by the end of the year.
It would'nt surprise me if they already have thier feelers out thier for a format change.

one this 790 WPRV does have right, is IMUS IN THE MORNING
the only time I actually tune them in
best morning show in this area

From what I hear from people on the inside the best thing that could happen is all the top level management gets the boot. Know one has any respect for Barbara. She has made some very dumb moves, and the second Tony leaves the room I've been told they roll there eyes or laugh. People in the building don't really know what he does except make promotions meetings run long he doesn't have any real friends in that building from what I've been told.

I hope so. I'd love to see 106.3 as ON-FM again & 790 be a player once more with the WEAN calls. I don't think Spanish is warranted on 790 tho & business radio definitely isn't warranted on 790 or 550!

All I can say is that I really hope Art Spencer isn't let go. What makes you think he will be? Though maybe if he was, they'd pick up John Tesh.
