Citadel promises fast fix to underperforming Dallas ABC stations

Farid Suleman uses the word "disappointing" several times on this morning's call, and most of that came from the "underperforming markets that have to be fixed", like the former ABC clusters in markets such as New York, L.A., Chicago, Dallas and Detroit. Suleman's optimistic about what Don Imus can do for WABC, New York, and for what baseball (the returning Dodgers) can do for KABC in Los Angeles. Revenues at the former Citadel stations were down about 4%, partly because of the re-formatting in Birmingham after Rick & Bubba left to join WZZK. Bear Stearns analyst Vic Miller asked about the promised $10-30 million in merger synergies from ABC/Citadel, and Wachovia's Marci Ryvicker comments on Citadel withdrawing its forecast of $400 million in cash flow next year. Suleman says "we're gonna fix the underperformance, and we're gonna fix it fast."

Wonder if that means we're going to get rid of some of the pundit hacks(ex: Mark Levin) they have in their daily talk-show lineup at WBAP and bring back Rangers Baseball in the spring....

Whew! That sounds serious! Well, at least the Twister is safe. ;D

I know WBAP used to carry the Rangers, but did they do so as a network like KRLD/TSN does?

I'm not sure bringing the Rangers to WBAP would be in the best interest for ABC at this point, primarily because the team has been on a losing streak far too long.

They really need to start with 96.7. You just can't keep beating a dead horse...

C'mon buc - give them a chance... they were like 28th last book. And they beat that Indian station! ;)

Jeff, even if they were planning to flip it to smooth jazz?..... ;)

KRLD has 3 years to go on their current contract with the Texas Rangers. If the games went back to WBAP, then ABC would distribute the games.

So - muffling WBAP's audio, and introducing background hiss on it will help WBAP's ratings - how?!

Wonder how 620 Radio Disney will do on this one?

Doubt too many kids are gathering round the AM radio when they have their Ipods.

As I recall, the Radio Disney stations weren't part of the Citadel deal.

They weren't. Radio Disney sounds AWFUL compared to the way it used to. You have to wonder what genius over there had the idea that little kids would go out and buy $200 HD radios. They could have made a deal with Audiocubes to sell C-Quam radios for $25.

I'm surprised they still have that much of an audience. Especially on AM where that kind of programming (mostly music) sounds horrible. I feel bad for the parents in the minivans who have to listen to that shrill stuff.

I remember when Disney Channel (tv) was a premium channel on cable for around 10 a month & now they are included with the basics. Makes me wonder how the radio side is doing.

When RD first went on 620, its audio was pretty good for a music AM....I have friends whose kids didnt want to listen to anything else and their parents loved it...NOW, I feel the same way you do...have to pity the parents who have to listen to the gawd awful thing....some of the songs from back in the 60s and 70s they play on ocassion probably sounded better back then on the AM stations the parents listened to (1190 KLIF, etc) than they do NOW on 620. EGADS this is progress? I agree...turn back on the CQUAM (heck, maybe give Kahn a second chance.........woah!! ;)=

All RD turned out to be is an advertising outlet for Disney and similar companies...who cares what the ratings are??
