CITADEL RDS

Are the Citadel stations ever going to display song and artist on their RDS display? Do you think in a PPM market that ot displaying this info can help a station by forcing a listener to keep listening to find out what that song/artist was?

In addition to no RDS data, the Citadel stations running HD in this area have never displayed the info via that stream either. I haven't had the chance to ask Duffy (Providence) or Dan (Fairhaven) if there is a reason why. I'd like to know if it's a local/regional decision or corporate. Maybe others might know if other Citadel stations around the country show the data or not? I think WPLJ in NYC does, but then again, they used to be ABC Radio.

I once tuned in WALE 990 on a car stereo, and the RDS display read "Paul is dead..."

92.3 and 105.1 were both displaying song titles in the text portion of the RDS maybe 4-5 years ago. If they were able to do it then, I would imagine that they could still do it, unless something has significantly changed in their automation or STL/T1 systems. They were showing the song titles before it started becoming popular, and almost everyone jumped on the bandwagon. Now most stations are displaying the information 8 characters at a time in the regular PS (Program Service) display, which is the default display on most radios that have RDS. Stations probably started showing the titles in that spot once they realized that 99% of people aren't ever going to press that "Text" button.

My Sirius radio has a 3 line text display. I would imagine that if I can get RDS info from a satellite 23,000 miles up in the sky, that local stations should be able to handle it ok. Don't know why it's so difficult to get that together.

Now Hot 106 is showing song titles for the first time, and 99.7 is showing the current talk show host.
Yeah i know i just went to woonsocket with my zune and saw song titles but i can't see the song titles on my HD radio yet because Hot 106 HD transmitter is off air.

Fun 107 is not. The station data is "THE #1 HIT MUSIC STATION!" and the text data (where it would normally show title and artist) is currently "The #1 Hit Music Station!/ Fun 107". Side note... On my car HD radio which is made by JVC, the display is not capable of showing the pound symbol (#). So the station text shows "THE 1 HIT MUSIC STATION!" (a space where # should be). Perhaps changing it to "NUMBER" would be better? I'm sure other radios without a dot matrix display have that issue.
