Citadel Starguide III going away...

Just curious... how many are ready for Citadel pulling the plug on Starguide III at the end of the month? I've contacted all my contract clients and already taken care of my fulltime gig, but I'm sure there will be a lot of phone calls made sometime after 12 noon Eastern on June 30th!

I was reading the FAQ on Citadel's website. The very first question made me laugh. "How do I know I have a Citadel Media StarGuide III receiver?" I guess it's hard to tell if you have a black face receiver with STARGUIDE III printed on the front.

I'm sure there are a few stations where the engineer is the only one that knows what or where when it comes to the satellite receivers... or the transmitter site for that matter... ;D

I thought this was discussed a few months back & it was determined that there would still be numerous services using SG III. Are you saying that every single SG III will be totally dead on July 1?

Bob...

Citadel will pull their carrier down for Starguide on June 30th at Noon. I think Clear Channel will be continuing their Starguide service.

Yes, Clear Channel indicates they will continue with the SG platform for a while longer.
Lots-o-sports networks still use them.

Other than that, we're thinking that WWOne doesn't want their SGII's back so they're going to the electronics recycler.

A pity too as they were reliable under real life conditions. And tolerant of less than perfect reception conditions. I have had over 12 ABC news outages and ABC music network outages in the last 4 days. And after 8 tech support calls to Dallas, ABC/uh, Citadel Media finally admits to me that their receiver is actually not functioning correctly. I am supposed to get replacements in about 48 hours.

Clear Channel is still using them for the Reds. When I asked about it a few months back, they said they have no immediate plans on replacing the Starguide platform.....which means I'm waiting for the email any day now about them replacing the Starguides.

One of the Networks I look after uses Citadel for delivery. I have spoken to more than one station that has no idea where they receive our programming. I had an engineer at a station tell me our programming was coming from a Dial Global Wegener iPump receiver. When I told him that was not possible he became belligerent and told me in no uncertain terms I had no idea what I was talking about. I finally agreed with him and told him to call Dial Global to work out his problem.

I just installed a SG III for the Reds a couple months ago. Glad that it's now understood that not all SG III's are about to go dark.

Well, this has been discussed by the networks with their affiliates for a very long time, maybe two years. I'm surprised that the end of the Starguide for most programs is coming as a shock to so many. The XDS has been reliable, and is really cool when you get to know it. It can save you lots of switching if you do talk programming, and you can make changes from the comfort of your laptop at home.

The best feature is built-in program delay if you want it. This feature makes it so much easier to "tape delay" programming without having to fight an automation system to accomplish the task.

NSN/Clear Channel Sat.. Likely wont do away with them for sports programming and special stuff for a while... the SG platform is perfect for sporting events etc. They don't need the special features that XDS and others offer.

Well, we should all hang on to our Starguides to help out the ones who will need cards for them, since they are not supported anymore. I have maybe 4-5 that'll be on the shelf. They are going pretty cheap right now so I'll hold mine until they are scarce.

I'd love to be able to listen in on that phone call.

Dial doesn't even use the iPump do they for anything?... I would laugh if he has one sitting in a rack and thinks his stations programming is being recev on it.

I get Talk Radio Network programming thru Dial-Global using an Ipump. Not sure what else is available thru it.

The DG 24/7 networks use the Wegner reciever (which is a pain in the ass, solely because it's longer than a standard rack. You can't close the back door.)

Citadel's XDS platform is really cool and easy to use. Eliminates external switching.
