Citadel sues Tulsa operator Renda Broadcasting over its use of "Bob FM"

Renda'd have to pay for "Jack," too... don't they have lawyers to figure this stuff out in advance?

Which coverage map we talking about? The one that LB gives to clients to make his stations look better then they are? Or the one the FCC uses? I don't think Citadel has a chance. I thought Bob FM was owned by Joel Folger or some guy in Canada. I really think this is a parting shot at Renda for various other things.

Anyone remember when KMGL sued Tulsa's KQMJ (Magic 99) for use of the moniker "Magic" years ago? I don't remember how that one went, but it didn't matter because Tulsa's Magic wasn't good enough to be around very long. I predict this will turn out the same.

Renda needs to take this as an opportunity to go back to being just KBEZ.

Here's another one for ya. 104.1 was KMGC for a short period of time before KMGL. They had a dispute with with KAKC I think it was in that the calls were too similar. The calls where changed on 104.1 to resolve it.

I'm thinking KQMJ won that one. While Tulsa's Magic 99.5 didn't last an eternity, it did have a good 5 or 6 year run. I'm thinking it signed on in either late '85 or '86, and it became 99.5 The Storm in August or September '91.

When it comes to Citadel v Renda, I lean toward thinking Citadel will end up holding the bag on this one, especially if Renda licensed the Bob name from the holder of the national rights.

KMGL was never KMGC. KMGL was KOFM up to the mid 80's. During this time 102.9 in Dallas was KMGC (Magic 102) which later became KDMX in the early 90's.

Yeah, KDMX was KMGC back in the 70's and I don't think they went to KDMX until maybe 1992 at the latest. I don't remember 104.1 being anything other than KOFM and KMGL, although it's possible they wanted the calls to be something other than KMGL. The switch from KOFM happened sometime in the spring or summer of 86.

I'm a bit wrong on the first statement. I think they applied for them but either the FCC or someone prevented them from it. It was because of a Tulsa station that had similar calls. You're right in that they never actually were able to get the calls. I stand corrected. (the grey matter slipped a gear a bit) :)
