CITADEL To Bring Back Imus By December

An article in today's Boston Globe reported that Citadel Broadcasting will have Don Imus back on syndicated radio by December.
Unclear in the article if any Boston stations will pick it up. The closest Citadel outlet is in Rhode Island.

The article mentions WTKK as the former Imus outlet and seems to imply between the lines that if the Howie Carr deal falls through in the courts that 96.9 is not closing the door on Imus' return.

Perhaps Mike from Fitchburg was hoping the talking cowboy hat would come back for some more 96.9 hay so he kept the lights on for his suck-up buddy and passed on the morning job. In his wildest his dream he couldn't envision them turning around and putting an offer out to Howie who happily screwed himself out of a paycheck for any foreseeable future.

If you're a sales manager crying out for help, do you really want some backup guy to keep eroding whatever is left of your morning drive audience during money months or would you rather take the crusty old man who can still compete back? Talk evolution is money talks and bull$hit walks. Apparently, those misinformed Globe sources at 96.9 haven't evolved yet. Give them time.

Ah...er...maybe...

Apparently a snag has developed. The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) has publicly objected to Imus' hiring by Citadel. Something about "hate speech" and "we are outraged"...IOW, the usual tripe.

I have just a few words for the NABJ, TURN TO THE DIAL or this one, JUST DON'T LISTEN! It is that easy. He paid the price, move on!

Media Matters is doing the same type of "witch hunt". No word yet on whether such organizations would
go after left-leaning hosts (though Imus is not exactly conservative...he could be un-PC though)

Then again such efforts can occur from the Right:
There is the "if you don't like it, don't listen" argument but those who are socially conservative might not
agree with that--Laura Ingraham talks about "the pornification of America" and has said, "You can't
just say, If you don't like it change the channel" (talking about TV more than radio, but still...)
Years ago a religious organization organized a boycott against advertisers on Fox's Married with Children but the
show still survived and thrived. Note that when Imus got pulled a big part was his ADVERTISERS pulling out.

Here's a foolish question....but I'll risk it!

DOES THE ENTIRE RADIOWORLD REVOLVE AROUND DON IMUS AND HOWIE CARR?

Are there no longer other options (aka other personalities) to listen to? Or has the business become strictly based on advertising revenue?

I think it's terrific that Don and Howie can cut whatever deals they wish, but there must be at least a dozen other personalities who can duplicate or initiate their own talents in the Boston market...that would bring in audience as well as revenue?

The question...does a radio station owner (or syndicated group) have the guts to take a chance on a different format or somebody who isn't overly sarcastic about every subject? ???
