Citadel wants to re-buy Magic 107.3

Citadel Broadcasting is wanting to take back WMGL, Magic 107.3, from the Last Bastion Station Trust, because of how highly rated they are. The newspaper article is horribly wrong, calling it an adult-contemporary station when it is urban AC, and saying that they are on 107.5 when they have been on 107.3 since the switch from 101.7.

They want to take it back because of WNKT at 107.5 moving from St. George to the Columbia area as The Game.

Here is the article:

Interesting....it doesn't really make a huge difference since it's already run like a Citadel station and pretty much by them, in terms of operation.

I've seen newspapers refer to urban AC stations as "adult contemporary". Also the late great Broadcasting & Cable Yearbook--they had WBAV Charlotte, NC listed wrong for 10 years despite my telling them every year. I can't recall whether they ever corrected it. It's still wrong because "adult contemporary" is a format with mostly white artists and urban AC is mostly black artists.

The defintion of "adult contemporary" has gotten too broad. Look at the topics related to "New 92".

Won't make a difference at all. They will more than likely still be #2 compared to STAR 99.7 when it comes to Urban AC radio in Chucktown. Shame on Post & Courier calling WMGL "MAGIC 107.5." Citadel also sold off HEAVEN 1390AM to Apex back then.

Maybe, as they were only 11th in the ratings this year, but they use it as a flanker for their Z-93. Magic's format has also been there for well over 10 years, and people do listen loyally, so it will probably stay Magic.

Back when Sunny switched, I believe they were in the mid 2s for 12+ ratings. That was poor for a full-market 100kw station.
