With all the talk about BA's new Smooth Jazz Network, I'd like to invite all of you to have a listen to www.wave947.fm and report your thoughts about it? If nothing else, the Canadian Content (about 30%) will give you some new music to discover. Enjoy it while you can, before BA kills this one, too!

checked it out. Nice! Even though it's Canada I guess they're not immune to BA grabbing them. But the temptation to take the easy way out in this format is too great. Plug and play from the network may eventually take place. Some stuff from a network is OK, but when the station IS the network is a totally different thing. I'm so dismayed. An SJ station with NO local connection other than prerecorded announcements. They really saved themselves with the network. What a smart business move. Yeah, sucks for all those good and passionate jocks that were blown out because of it. All the stations that went 24/7 with it are the ones who would have otherwise defected from the format. No other reason for them to do it. Smooth Jazz is a dream format for PDs with the network. They can focus on their other stations and if the SJ tanks..not their fault. Nice job-saver format! PDs jumping on BA Network had to have a little extra job security in mind! I'm sure some arm twisting was involved too. I can hear a PD getting a call like...well, your numbers---not too good, best to take the network or it's on you. If I got a call like that I'd take the network and blow out my talent. And since many PDs and DJs didn't know the music what the hell! Smart smart smart.

I heard it! I like the other music they have to play too because it's more variety. But the music is great. The Canadian songs make them sound special. I dont think they'll let BA get to them. Sounds like they're bound and determined to not let that happen. Doesn't seem like they're owned by an affiliate company that can jam it down their throat so it will totally be their choice. These guys sound too good right now to go generic (non-local national). The fact that they don't sound like the network stations going on the cheap around the country almost gives you more respect for the format and the music. Maybe if the BA network idea tanks for some affiliates we'll see more local in SJ. I know the temptation of not having to deal with vacations, illness, child care concerns, personal days is too great for many bosses in the format but I really trust that the CIWV folks are really serious about making it work without relying on name brand musicians to get people to isten to the same old music. I hope the BA thing has gone as far as it will go. Hearing some of it jolts me at times because of the way they talk and sometimes you don't know whether they're finished, then you hear a commercial. CIWV doesn't make me feel that way.
