CJEZ (Ez rock) to change???

Hmmm...sources tell me to tune in December 26.
If not, definantly in the new year!

New name and all...any truth to this???

ez rock will most likely become a classic hits station according to the Tuned IN millennium stite....quite surprised....EZ rock has been around for almost 15 years and ratings have been in the top 5. Will it compete against Q107? Will it sound like Vinyl 95.3 from Hamilton?

EZ Rock is now Boom 97.3 which is all classic hits/retro...sounds alittle like CFTR from the 70's and early 80's.....what a relief.

I was listening earlier, and it's almost all 80s. Then I just now looked at the playlist and saw this:

Sat 07:33PM DANIEL POWTER BAD DAY

Anyone expecting a replacement for 1050 CHUM will be very disappointed.

Why the change to Classic Hits?

I thought EZ Rock was doing very well in the ratings?

What would you do if CHFI (the closest thing to your competition) had a 13 share and you only had a 6 share in the same market?

The scary thing is, BOOM (CHBM) may end up with something less than a 6 share, or they may gain to have a 7 or 8 share...but either way, I think CHFI is having their own party over this one.

I'm guessing CHFI will now play more soft currents...?
Or will they be soft variety, since 97.3 sounds a little more heavy as the new Boom FM?

I'm also guessing CHFI will climb a bit in the ratings...???

it sounds like jack fm is back in Toronto

Hardly. Format wise, perhaps, but they DO take requests. The thing that shocks me, is that my request for a song I thought they would not have was played within the hour!

PLUS there was a producer or board op answering the phone. Not some lame automated recording when I call.

Is this a sign of things changing down the EZ Rock chain, will they also flip to the Boom format? There has been a fair amount of (Roger's Ottawa based) voice tracking going on at EZ Rock in North Bay & Sudbury, during our time up there.

Boom has room to be a cookie cutter format, but I think they want to review ratings in other markets first before making such a decision.

I just hope they don't launch a Boom with some very different format like they did with Virgin Ottawa. (vs Virgin Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver)

A good cookie cutter is a good cookie cutter and shouldn't be played around with (too much), expecially if "boom" was originally intended to target the baby boomer. (or so I thought...)

After a week of sampling the two stations, I prefer Vinyl 95.3. Boom 97.3 is a well produced station, no doubt. But Vinyl 95.3 has more of a "Buffalo feel" to it (...and if you've ever had a Buffalo feel... rimshot, gray Fidelipac cart.)

I wonder if this reflects a difference between Hamilton and Toronto. Opinions?

This having been said, the approach Boom is using might draw more 35-44's than Vinyl. WHTT Buffalo (where I did middays through Oldies, Buffalo's Greatest Hits and Mix) dropped the under-performing Mix format and (wisely) returned to Classic Hits. The Fall book reflects gains for WHTT, especially Women. But the largest segment of the audience for Classic Hits is Women and Men 45-64. If your sales department can sell those numbers, you're in the money. If a competitor has better 35-54's, it's another story. The advertising climate is a bear. Clients want 25-54. If the bulk of a station's ratings are 55-64, it can be a tough sell. However, Buffalo is a 45-64 market, entirely different than Toronto, so what works here may not in TO. The city, not the football player.

Savor the day!

I prefer to listen to 95.3 as there is a wider playlist of classic hits..even though they aren't a toronto station
