After a week of sampling the two stations, I prefer Vinyl 95.3. Boom 97.3 is a well produced station, no doubt. But Vinyl 95.3 has more of a "Buffalo feel" to it (...and if you've ever had a Buffalo feel... rimshot, gray Fidelipac cart.)
I wonder if this reflects a difference between Hamilton and Toronto. Opinions?
This having been said, the approach Boom is using might draw more 35-44's than Vinyl. WHTT Buffalo (where I did middays through Oldies, Buffalo's Greatest Hits and Mix) dropped the under-performing Mix format and (wisely) returned to Classic Hits. The Fall book reflects gains for WHTT, especially Women. But the largest segment of the audience for Classic Hits is Women and Men 45-64. If your sales department can sell those numbers, you're in the money. If a competitor has better 35-54's, it's another story. The advertising climate is a bear. Clients want 25-54. If the bulk of a station's ratings are 55-64, it can be a tough sell. However, Buffalo is a 45-64 market, entirely different than Toronto, so what works here may not in TO. The city, not the football player.
Savor the day!
