CJLO 1690 Montreal

They just recieved the permit to begin constructing their transmitter, less than a week after applying for it, so they are about to begin the construction in the next couple of days. This station is going to be a lot of fun, an alternative/campus radio station on AM. I'm guessing they should hopefully be testing by September, and should be a welcome surprise for DXers who are lo0king for something different on the AM band.

I do know of a community internet radio station in Scarborough Ontario that considered going AM, but they since changed their mind and chose to go after an FM licence. All I can say to that is, good luck. The breathing space on the Toronto FM radio dial is very scarce.

As for Montreal radio. Good for them finding use for the AM dial! I wish them all the best!

I wish this station the best to0. I'll be listening as often as possible, being only a couple of hours from Montreal.
I have a few friends here in Ottawa that are really excited about the station, and they're all under 25.

I thought i heard some French stations above 1.61Mhz the other night :)

There are two other expanded-band stations in Montreal.

http://www.cpam-radiounion.com/index.asp (1610KHz; for immigrants, especially Haitian, broadcasts in French and Creole)

http://www.radio-shalom.ca/ (1650KHz; for the Jewish community, about 2/3 French with much of the rest English and 10% Hebrew)

There's also a permit for a French-language children's station on 1670 in Ottawa, but I'm pretty sure it isn't on the air yet.

as of an hour ago, 1670 still wasn't on. I know they've been running on a thirty watt fm transmitter at 101.9 which goes absolutely nowhere. A few blocks and that's it.
