CJR has comment and NYPost has news in AAR kerfuffle

The Columbia Journalism Review (online) has a piece recapping some facts and making a comment on the coverage of the story (excerpt):

The Sun, the Post and some blogs have done a good job of exposing the case, but some questions remain -- three of the most important being, when did Piquant find out about the shady loans; what did they do about it; and how much of this $875,000 actually made it to Air America?

It's too early to jump to conclusions -- no one knows at this point what the outcome of the investigations will be -- but one thing is for sure: some very big names on the media beat are conspicuously missing the boat on what may well be a juicy story.

The NY Post reports a difference of opinion (or fact) regarding a repayment "agreement" between the parties (excerpt):

But an Air America official told The Post yesterday that both sides had agreed to a payment plan months ago and that they were on schedule with their payments.

That was news to the Boys & Girls Club. "Air America has agreed in principle to give the money, but nothing has been finalized yet," Grossman said yesterday.

"They haven't agreed how and when to do it."

The NY Times, the nation's "newspaper of record" has yet to print a single word regarding this matter. It seems that they are hoping there won't be a record.

PW somehow "forgot" to include an excerpt that said the current owners of Air America are NOT under investigation. In other words, it's not an Air America scandal, it's an Evan "Republican operative" Cohen scandal.

"Piquant -- which is not being investigated in the scandal -- released a statement last week that emphasized that Progress, which has been defunct for over a year, was the owner at the time the Gloria Wise loans were made. Nonetheless, Piquant has committed to repaying the loans in their entirety."

The part PW always seems to forget to take at heart in these daily rehashes. None of this is at all new information. CJR has basically reprinted the major points of the original articles on this. USA Today gave it a small space in their paper, noting that Air America Radio itself is not under any investigation. Meanwhile, the right wing echo chamber continues to run with it, only each day their strange "telephone game" repetition of each other with amplified "details" means that in 8-10 days, American society itself will be threatened by the "scandal."

Yeah, The NY Times lives or dies thinking about how a two bit scandal represents a major focus in our universe. Of course, if they printed an article saying "Untoward exchange of funds between Boys & Girls Club and Ousted CEO of Air America Radio investigated; Air America Radio Not Under Investigation," you'd be screaming liberal media coverup.

What everyone here already knows is that anything beyond a reprinting of something out of Newsmax would not satisfy your bizarre obsession with AAR. Seek help.

August 10th, 2005

New York State <u>Attorney General Eliot Spitzer</u> (Democrat) is looking into questionable loans made by the New York-based Gloria Wise Boys and Girls Club to Air America Radio (AAR) early in the liberal talk network's life. The case is already being investigated by the New York City Department of Investigation (DOI).

Although AAR is no longer affiliated with Cohen, who sold his interest to Piquant LLC in 2004, the current owners have said they will repay the loans to the club, even though <u>they</u> maintain they have no legal obligation to do so.

Meanwhile, <u>the DOI</u> has recommended that Piquant place $875,000 in an escrow account, pending the outcome of the investigation, according to the New York Post. The company, however, has reportedly deposited $50,000 into an account controlled by an attorney for the network, to <u>the dismay of investigators. </u>

Sorry, i'm a little lost on your fuzzy logic.. I was under the impression that when you make a political donation it needs to be reported?!

You haven't (as a die hard advocate of communist radio) given me the links
that discredit the NYC "laundry".. heh heh heh..

Also last but not least, (i need to make this legal under R-I rules) DID YOU know that Houston and Wash DC are difficult markets to do Arby Diaries? We are offering up to $60 for the Blacks and Mexicans to do diaries. They accept them but won't spend the effort filling them out. Can you explain that to me? Goddess (I say this so you won't be offended) we call them back and send them a $ and they still won't do their diaries.. Aggravating..

Anyway, my question is, can you point me to a website that sez how much moolah Err Amerika has recieved from the "Feed Err Amerika Foundation"?

this really interests me because you were whining about Rush Limbaugh parody's and DEMANDED THAT THE FCC LOOK INTO IT!! MY GODDESS, YOUR DEMOCRACY IS AT STAKE!!

We send you a $1 every other day. Please fill out your diaries.
