CJWI (aka) CPAM Radio Union 1410 heard testing

Hearing CJWI (aka) CPAM Radio Union, Montreal testing on new frequency of 1410 khz at 23:37 UTC with looping French announcements and alternating Latin guitar music

Allen in Newfoundland

Looks like 1610 is about as quiet as ever. TIS stations, Dr. Gene Scott and CHHA are left, only.

Would be happy to see CHHA vacate 1610. That was a bad idea. People in Chicago need to be able to get traffic reports, not have them drowned out by a foreign language station in a foreign country. That frequency is very valuable for TIS and Part 15 stations. It should have been reserved for that purpose.

Under an international agreement, Canada only got 1610, 1630, 1650, 1670, and 1690 in the expanded band. At this moment there are only 2 stations at 1610, We deal with your iboc up here....you can deal with one station that actually programmes to a large community from us.

In the end, the TIS stations in Chicago are a secondary service anyway.

(while reception down here in Tennessee is not very good, I find the CHHA programming frequently rather interesting)

I don't like the programming from CHHA at all; in fact I can't stand it. And while TIS stations may be a secondary service, foreign stations are not a protected service at all. I have to agree with the complaints about IBOC though, I hate that even more than CHHA. Don't be foolish and adopt that worthless system in Canada!

Meanwhile... how much power is the new station on 1410 running? And which direction is it going?

It's supposed to be 10,000 watts fulltime, I'm assuming directional to the north and east. I live west of Montreal by almost 2 hours and can barely get any trace of it during the day, and it's no better at night.

Big change in signal late this afterno0n. Unlike this morning and early afterno0n when I could not hear much of anything, I checked it out just after 4 pm and got a very clear signal just outside of where I work. It did drop out or slightly fade from time to time only to suddenly get very loud again. On the G8, the signal hit 42 db's. Before I was only able to get it to peak at 16, and as owners of the radio know, it bottoms out at 15. I even tried inside the office building I work in, where 2 of the locals even struggle to be heard, and it was there, maybe peaking in the low 20 db's. After 8 pm when I went on a break I tried again, and it was dominant. Here at home I'm hearing it still, better than the past 2 nights, but there are still 3 other stations that are trading places with it. This afterno0n I did move around to other locations to see if it would drop out and it never did.
