CKGM Begins Testing on 690 AM

On August 31st, 2012, CKGM Montreal (TSN Radio 690) began testing on AM 690 in preparation for its move to that frequency on September 4th, 2012 at 6 AM.

TSN Radio will simulcast on the two frequencies over the next three months, after which the 990 frequency will become Radio Fierté, a French-language station targeted towards Montreal's gay and lesbian community.

Below is a link to an extended clip of the signal test. Before the switch occurs, 690 is running a loop featuring some of TSN 990's recent programming highlights. A phone number and e-mail address are also provided so that listeners can provide signal interference info to the station's engineering team.

As always, enjoy :)!

Interesting that it's English. They have an application pending to operate the station in French instead; to my knowledge the CRTC has not yet acted on that application. If they're going ahead with English, it sounds like either the CRTC has told them the application will not be approved, or they just decided to drop it on their own.

I'm hearing something in English on 690 under the Mexican station, but it's too noisy down here to tell exactly what it is.

I wouldn't read as much into it as w9wi does. Bell is presumably under some pressure from Evanov to vacate the 990 frequency for Radio Fierte, and so it has to light up 690 - and legally, at least for now, it has no choice but to light up 690 in English.
