CKGM launches on 690 on Tuesday.

They started the testing phases with some repeats of recent programming this morning. According to their website they will simulcast both for 3 months before 990 temporarily goes silent awaiting it's new occupant.

I hear them on 690 right now. I will have to see how they sound during daytime tomorrow to determine if they are running the same 50kw signal on 690. 690 used to have decent daytime coverage down here. I get 730 during the day but its a pretty weak signal.

I'm hearing that it's on reduced power right now. As of this morning 990 is completely off the air (but I can still hear it online or on bell satelite tv.)

I was getting 690 this morning during daytime on the car radio but they seemed weaker than 730. I wasn't hearing 990 at all, but they are usually hard to get here during the day unless its winter.

It was a good DX channel while it lasted, especially when WLW shut its IBOC off. I was able to log WELD multiple times.

Just curious: What's running on the AM690 frequency in Montreal right now - is it college football between Alabama and Michigan? I might have picked it up on one of my Walkman radios (I bought a second one - a 1989 model - recently at a yard sale after my main one was accidentally dropped to the ground and knocking out any AM circuits; FM reception is still perfect).

There have been no sports at all on 690, just taped interviews from the past week. 990 is still off the air. I assume they'll be at full power on Tuesday. The signal's not bad and seems improved slightly over yesterday. 730 is the weakest of all Montreal stations that reach Ottawa. Even 1280 has a better signal.

If anyone is interested, I recorded a 14-minute sample of the programming highlights loop on Friday, August 31st. Click on the link below to download it.

690 was coming in loud and clear on various radios throughout my house, and also in my car. Their signal sounds fine thus far.

BTW, when TSN Radio moves to 690 full-time in December, 990 will become the home of the Evanov Communications-owned Radio Fierté, a French-language station targeted towards Montreal's LGBT community. Radio Fierté will serve as a sister station to Toronto's 103.9 Proud FM (CIRR-FM).

Heard them here in Winnipeg last night with sports talk then a full ID and a request for info if they were causing any interference.

Are they sticking with English or going all french sports?

They'll have to be in English. The hearing to switch the language isn't unil the 10th and that's not a guarantee that they'll be approved to swich languages.

As of the moment (noon-ish Saturday), they're coming in with the strongest AM signal from Montreal. The TSN site (and other sources) are promoting the move...it certainly doesn't sound like there's an impending flip. But, as often in radio, you never really know until it happens.

Oh man! I'm not a sports radio fan, but I shudder to think what type of programming we'll have to deal with, when trying to pull in CBW, during the DX season, lol!

990 is now running a short audio loop saying to change your radio to 690 as 990 will cease programming on December 1st. I wonder if the site will go off air or if it will transition right to the new format.

I usually get WDCX along with Montreal on 990 at night so I don't see 990 signing off as a great DX opportunity, but for some it could make logging CBW easier if 990 does go off air until the new format signs on.

It would be smart to allow 990 to be a repeater of 690 for a (very) short time. Perhaps a few days.

It's been a repeater since Labour Day. The 3 month simulcast period would end about December 6th...so they're just cutting it a few days early. I'm sure most have switched over to the superior 690 signal any way. 990 has been running on greatly reduced power since 690 launched in September. So low powered that it's daytime signal no longer reaches Ottawa, except for very weakly on the east edge of town. At night it's only slightly better.

I'm sure they're also getting pressure from Evanov who now has the license for 990 to switch off CKGM and let them launch their new station.
