CKSH-9

Who receives (or received) CKSH on cable here in New England? I started this topic because Metrocast dropped it this month from their cable line-up for Sanford and Rochester. Who else has recently or will soon lose CKSH? Does anyone know if it is a contract thing for it to be dropped?

Comcast carries it in Nashua and greater Manchester, NH - although their former Adelphia system in between the two cities (Merrimack/Londonderry) does not carry it.

Sorry to hear that Metrocast has elected to dump it and probably add some shopping channel (or nothing) in its place. Typical greedy, crappy move by a cable system. Somehow, the crappy channels never get the cut, but broadcast ones always do.

I would watch CKSH now and then, despite not being able to speak French. Great hockey games are offered on SRC and the ads are a hoot!

Not anymore -- all French-language NHL games are now seen only on the French-language sports channel, RDS, ever since Radio-Canada ended the telecasts in 2002 (though they simulcasted for the 2002-2003 season).

CKSH-TV (Channel 9) in Sherbrooke, QC is still on the Comcast Manchester system. The reason being is that there is strong contingent of French Canadian (Quebecois) viewers in the Manchester area. They're probably some of the most vocal and loyal viewers around. When someone tried to dump virtually all Canadian signals off of the cable system (several years ago, and that included CKSH), these viewers really went to bat for preserving CKSH on the system. Originally, CBMT (Channel 6) the legendary CBC English station in Montreal was in the package as well. But, the "copyright tribunal" pretty much killed that carriage. CBMT is a pretty decent station in its' own right. I used to watch it on satellite on Anik for years. But, ever since they went to an all digitally encoded signal, (and unless you have the $3000 to buy the decoder), CBMT is no longer available here in the States.

Metrocast is just leaving its spot blank.

Yet many systems in Maine and Michigan (especially those owned by Charter), as well as those in the Burlington / Plattsburgh area, still carry CBMT today. And those who don't want to pony up money for an expensive decoder can subscribe to Shaw Direct or Bell TV satellite through the gray market.

Most of the Time Warner systems in Maine have CBMT, the ones that are closer to Atlantic Canada carry CBAT out of St. John, NB. I don't know about other TW systems in Maine but I know the Bangor system (which covers a good chunk of Penobscot and Hancock counties) doesn't carry CKSH, instead carries TV5

In analog or in digital? These days, most major cable systems carry TV5 in their ethnic digital tiers.

In the 70s Greater Boston Cable carried CKSH-TV from Sherbrooke. When WOR and WPIX were dropped from the system ,I believe CKSH was dropped in the 80s. Might have been after Conteintal Cable bought GBCC. Contiental became MediaOne, which became ATTBroadband which became COmcast Highlights were Hockey Night in Canada and the 11PM Cine Soir.

analog, channel 70 something, i can't remember the exact number but it's up there

TV5 is on TWC Channel 64 here in Hancock/Penobscot Counties; and CBMT Montreal is on Channel 15. I'm a big fan of CBC. I really enjoy the Montreal news at 6, as I visit there often. I would like tl see TWC put something back on Channel 11 which has been vacant since January, when TWC dumped WSBK38 Boston. (Maybe CKSH?)I have suggested they add CKLT from Saint John, as it is on their Washington County systems. However, since CKLT And CTV carry a lot of US programs, I could see syndication/exclusivity issues. Even CBMT goes dark during Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy and Simpsons, as they are carried on Bangor's WVII and WFVX.
