CKWW Heard in Chicago

With its little 500 watt signal beamed up into Ontario, one wouldn't think that CKWW (AM 580) would have much of a chance of making it very far west. But surprisingly I've been hearing them fairly often in the early morning hours. They have a music format so it is easy to pick them out from the talk jumble on the frequency.

I wonder if they are running omni STA.

Talk about bang for the buck, CKWW with 500 watts has a real world groundwave footprint almost as big as WTCM's 50000 watt sand and gravel soil ground conductivity attenuated day signal. But if it weren't for the sand, they couldn't be 50000 watts.

What is their signal like in Detroit and suburbs? The reason I ask is that they apparently are positioning themselves as a Detroit (as well as Windsor) station. Chicago needs an AM station like this!

Good on the East Side, not so good on the West Side. I get 5 mV/m measured at my RL "20". Good day and night. Too much *obscure* Can Con is my biggest complaint about the format. Wish they could take over the CBEF 540 facility if and when it is vacated. That would give me 7/10 mV/m day/night. Similar patterns though. They'd probably take it to some kind of Talk though.
