Without any evidence of anyone else receiving any TA e-skip on that day it would lead one to think that this was not an e-skip event, but will we ever know for sure?

Probably not, no. To me, mysteries like this are part of what makes DX fun. I don't think there's much more that we can do that would conclusively prove (or absolutely disprove) that dxer720's reception was coming directly from Woodcock Hill. Knowing that the programming matches tells us that it *could* have been direct reception...or that it could have been someone relaying a live stream. Knowing that nobody else was reporting trans-Atlantic E-skip at the time tells us that it *probably* wasn't E-skip...but can't absolutely prove that it wasn't.

But here's what I can say after more than 30 years as a DXer: Even the most extraordinary E-skip tends to repeat itself. Paul Logan's 2003 reception of Watertown and Bangor was followed six years later by even more dramatic TA FM reception from Alabama.

If this was a true freak E-skip event (and I remain firmly in the skeptical camp on this), dxer720 now knows what to listen for if it happens again. Most European FM stations have multiple parallel transmitters, usually on frequencies spaced pretty closely. A video showing Clare FM on 95.9 and on 95.5 and 96.2 would be pretty persuasive evidence of actual E-skip. Logging the other signals from the same sites (RTE's four networks, and maybe even the other national services, Today FM and Newstalk 106-108) would be nearly incontrovertible proof.

And once more with feeling...I'd urge anyone who's seriously interested in E-skip and other forms of TV/FM DX to think seriously about joining us over at WTFDA, which has several useful forums (a very active mailing list as well as web-based forums and a weekly IRC chat) where some of the most experienced DXers in the world hang out with advice and very timely reception tips.

In the early days of internet radio streaming (1990s), I would listen to Virgin 1215 in one of the edit bays in my college radio/TV newsroom. I found out eventually the internet broadcast would bleed through one channel of the actual radio station, so I stopped.

I hope, though, that you really did receive Clare FM, because that would be a wonderful catch I would never see here in Kansas!
